What is Rule One?

Dirigible

Explorer
Illogically, there are many Rule Ones in the world. The version you will find most often on ENworld is...

Rule 1) Don't give the DM any ideas to use against the party;

... or something of the sort. However, other I have seen include :

Rule 1) NO POOFTAHS !

Rule 1) Don't start a discussion about real-world weapons online. It only leads to tears and stabbings.

Rule 1) When I am Evil Overlord, my minions will wear open faced helmets.

Rule 1) (my personal favourite) Do not act incautiously when confronted by small wrinkly bald smiling men !

... anyone got any others?

I like this one, and it is more than true for my last gaming group!!

We become very suspicious of elves, specialle female ones, they ALWAYS were treacherous...

Please do give advice for DMs to ruin the lives of the PCs. It makes my job a lot easier :D .

I love being lazy.
yeah and now that I am the DM I hope for it at all times...

My suggestion:

Rule 1 - Never post a thread about Half Orcs being underpowered because of its mods... old one, but still in mind...

Agreed. I do not think Half-orcs are underpowered. But they that statement does seem to be over played (much like most songs on the radio). I always tell them if they want an underpowered race, choose half-elf.

In my group:
Be shure the enemy is dead. Burn him and scatter the ashes in the winds or bury them within a vial of holy water.
My players never give me the chance of a reacuring villian, each time more disfigured than the last time. They always at least ddecapitate em.

Hello,

Rule One? That's easy:

You do not talk about D&D Club.

(Sorry, had to be done. And I don't even LIKE Fight Club.)

Beyond that, I believe the big Rule One around here has to with not offending the grandmothers of various admins, mods, and 20th-level Loremasters.

For the classicists, there's also the well-known

Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

And a less-famous variant of this, seen at times around the Web, can also be good advice:

Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Hope these help! :)
