What is the best-rolling die?

The best is the d20. I just like how it feels in my hand and the way it rolls. It's also the easiest. The most fun to roll is definitely the d100. You never know what you'll get. I really don't dislike any die, though.

The d100 is the cooler die that always makes people go "wow" when they see it. But then it's the most annoying to use because it takes so long for it to stop and then it's hard to read the number quickly. I guess it's not that bad though since you don't use it often and everyone gets excited when it's actually being used.

My first d100 broke and all the bits fell out right after I got it. Some friends bought me a new one as a birthday gift. I don't use it, but it's neat to have around. I have a d30 a friend brought to me 15 years ago from the old Orc's Nest games store in London. I've never needed to use it for anything, but I keep it in my "use these" bag for sentimenal reasons.

The dice I dislike most (and bought because I'm a will-less dice zombie) were some of Crystal Caste's "Crystal Dice" in the weird shapes. Talk about rolling forever; that d20 just won't stop.

Gamescience d20, number 0-9 twice, with a "+" on half the numbers. They roll enough, but not all over the table, and are very evenly distributed. Dunno why I prefer the "+" over 0-9 twice, in different colors, or the more common 1-20. I just like 'em.

The best die for spinning is definitely the d30. With a good twist and some open space free of obstructions, my d30 will keep spinning for about a minute. It's a shame I never actually get to roll a d30 for anything.

I also really like d12's. They're fun, though I can't really say why.

My favorite of the standard gaming dice is the d8, followed by the d10 and d12 in no particular order.
For the non-standard it's a toss up betwen my d5 (it's very useful compared to most other non-standard gaming dice) and d30. As has been noted the d100 rolls for too long and I've not played with my d24 very much yet.

Gamescience is coming out with d100's with new, heavier breaking compound (weighted bits) to reduce the rolling distance.

I don't like the d4 because I can't imagine it really "rolling." I mean, I guess some of the others technically don't roll either, but once the d4 lands on the table, it's done. No cocked dice or scrambling on the floor with that thing.

d6 is definitely the way to go - it has the nicest rolling properties, comes to a rest, and everyone's familiar with it. I've got pretty good luck with the buggers, too.
I've tried to restructure d20 so that it would be a 2d6 core mechanic instead, but it's more work than it's worth.
Unearthed arcana has a decent 3d6 varient rule with a table to maintain critical hit probablilities.

For nicest rolling I have to say the D12, Round enough to roll, but large enough flats that it will stop and be stable. Worst are clearly the caltrop, but they are handy to have around.

I just bought a 12 marked 1-4 in roman numerals this week. It will be fun to use.
