Disagree entirely. There are a million different circumstances that can make an easy encounter difficult or turn mundane tanking/blowing stuff up into 'heroic combat'. Also, some modules are just mean (ever play Speaker in Dreams? I *hope* you didnt try with 25 pt buy characters, because I dont know how many 36 pt buys my players re-rolled, but it was over 10).

Speaker in Dreams would be tough with 25 PB, but with the right party I think it would be possible, though a fatality or two is likely. Because you are in town, there are ample opportunities to rest and recharge that you don't normally get. The key is to take advantage of that. I do find it a little hard to believe a party got through it on 25 PB with no wizard or cleric, unless there were multiple fatalities, or the DM babied them.

The Adventure Path Module I would never touch with 25 PB characters is Heart of Nightfang Spire. To be honest, I'm not even sure I would touch it with 40 PB.

There are clerics in town that can heal, and at that level fighters still do a good amount of damage compaired to a wizard. With ranged attacks, good tactic, and proper use of feats they were like a strike force.

I just remember those worms and their 6 attacks chewing up a fully healed, raging barbarian in 2 rounds. I also recall a few tough fights, terrain-wise, like were-rats on the rafters or assaulting the sorceress' house and she drops obscuring mist inside (thats where the party wiped, she just summoned worms every round from the corner and the worms had some sort of vision, meanwhile the party couldn't find her and got clobbered by the worms, for the umpteenth time).

against the worms the high AC fighter fought defensively with expertise and they had a real trouble hitting him. THe ranger with his mighty bow and rapid shot just made did great damage agasint the worms.

When the obscuring mist happened, the party retreated and fought the worms as they came their way. The rogue snuck around and in and a few sneak attacks took care of the caster.

You'd refuse to play in a 28 or 30 pt game?

I voted 32 and while this wasn't directed at me (obviously) but I would refuse a game with less than 28 points most of the time -- weak characters bore me and the DM's in my area are tight with the magic item control freaks -- I could stand 25 if I played with someone like Monte Cook who understood the rules

Our group seems to like 36 point buy or set your own -- I may go with 32 in my next game -- not roll em though -- the "rolled" charcters are usually more broken than the point buy ones

32 point buy for me. I like my games to be pretty heroic in feel and I like to give my players the option of playing anything they like. 32 point buys are pretty conducive to getting just the character you want and being happy long-term with the campaign (at least IMC!).
