I voted 25, because it was the average. It is what supposedly the mystical value of 4d6 drop the lowest generates.

But in reality, I as a DM prefer to run 32 point buy campaigns, because I honestly tend to run brutal campaigns, regardless of level. That and I think with 32 you can make a "Good" character, with decent stats, that emulates good rolls, without worrying about those really GREAT rolls that players get from time to time.

I definitely prefer to roll dice for character generation and as a DM I also only allow dice method(s) (high powered too - I am VERY stingy with magic items so this partially compensates) of character generation. A little bit of randomness is good. :)

The minimum I'd play with is 6 points. It would be a game called Evolution where my character would be an amphibian that just flopped out on to the surface. My goal would be to build up my stats and develop until I became a minotaur. My first objective would be to gain levels and put my stat bonuses in intelligence. That way I could find magic books and read them to further boost my stats, eventually finding a way to reincarnate into something more viable. Of course everyone would have to start with 6 points, otherwise people would just be minotaurs right away and my little blob of jelly would be outclassed.
Is there a story hour for this game yet?

I voted 28+. I figure the more points the more freedom you have to modle the character you have in mind. (mind you..nobody has ever complained about having too many points to make their character...)

The standard 25.

I have always allowed players to choose between a 27 point buy or rolling. Not once have they chosen point buy.

The Auld Grump

Hm....I like that system. I'm gonna introduce it in my next quest (which will take them from level 1 up to level 25 or even 30  )

15 point buy is pretty much the minimum...any lower and you're just any other bob-farmer. What's the point if you're not even slightly better than the no name NPCs? 28 point buy is the maximum, however as anything above that makes the characters too powerful to start with.

I've played 25 for star wars - found that OK and I'd be happy with it for DnD. Think 22 would be doable, so I voted for it. I could be talked lower, depending on the campaign... gizmo33's in particular! :)

As a player or DM, my preferance is characters with point buy around 30. Find it makes for a more varied party.

Although rolling the dice does have it's charm. Want to try a 3D6 in order game sometime. Or a Diaglo as it should be called.
