Higher is better!

Although I don't consider myself a munchkin/powergamer, I definately like high stats. Even though I know statistically the difference between say, a 12 Dex and a 15 Dex doesn't even matter 95% of the time(aside from qualifying for certain Feats), I believe PCs are supposed to be heros. Better than mere mortals.
40 points is not enough!

I voted 25, because it was the average. It is what supposedly the mystical value of 4d6 drop the lowest generates.

Actually, the 4d6 drop 1 results in a 27 point buy on average. The average scores will be:
16, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8. But for some reason wizards uses 15 instead of 16 in their standard point-buy and elite array.

I wouldn't mind the 15 (3d6) point buy, or even lower, but If it's going to be that low, I'd prefer a modified system that lets me take lower than eight. After all, the average 3d6 roll results in a six for the lowest score.

Actually, if you factor in hopeless characters (no +2 mods or all mods add up to 0 or worse), the average for rolling 4d6 drop is about 30.5 (See thread in rules forum for more details).

25, because with anything below it is just stupid to use any rules at all. ;)

Even 25 is a bit on the low side, but it's barely acceptable. 28 is absolutely fine.

Even if you *do not* factor in hopeless characters, it's an ePB (equivalent Point Buy) of 28.5+ depending on how you treat stats below 8. See same thread for a calculation. ;)

It doesn't really matter - point buy is more a matter of tone than power. What I mean is that I'd gladly use whatever point buy is appropriate to the campaign style.

That said, I draw the line at 15. 15 is an average individual, and while I like gritty campaigns where the PCs are average guys trying to survive, I have no interest in playing characters that are subhuman.
