There's no such thing as a dice limit.
On a more serious note: I guess as many as you desire/need. My one bro for life has a pretty hefty dice collection due to board game playing and being a BIG MtG player. He has a number of the Life Counter die which seem to be a pain to get or even buy whenever I check online. Although, since I'm really not that big on MtG, maybe that's the point. (He has yet to play DND, which is something I plan to rectify.)
I can see the appeal of collecting dice as my collection started taking off this year. Aside from getting some of the WoTC ones, like the Silverhand and Icewind Dale dice set from their respective kits, I've been getting a number of dice sets that I like look wise. And then add in the various 5E Kickstarters I've backed this year and last year, I've gained even more for my collection. Which I'll admit, the ONLY problem with Kickstarter backed dice sets is that most of them aren't replaceable if you have some bad fortune and lose em. I'll probably get the Avernus and Ravnica kits just to get their dice sets as well.(the dice tray boxes will be nice to have as well.) The metal Icewind Dale dice set is going to be another purchase as well, though its not high on my list at the moment since I already have a full set of the black and red DND metal set.
At this rate, I probably have enough for 5E's needs while also having a spare set or two to hand out at the table should somebody need one for a session.
