D&D 5E What is the most dice you could ever need?

There's no such thing as a dice limit.
On a more serious note: I guess as many as you desire/need. My one bro for life has a pretty hefty dice collection due to board game playing and being a BIG MtG player. He has a number of the Life Counter die which seem to be a pain to get or even buy whenever I check online. Although, since I'm really not that big on MtG, maybe that's the point. (He has yet to play DND, which is something I plan to rectify.)

I can see the appeal of collecting dice as my collection started taking off this year. Aside from getting some of the WoTC ones, like the Silverhand and Icewind Dale dice set from their respective kits, I've been getting a number of dice sets that I like look wise. And then add in the various 5E Kickstarters I've backed this year and last year, I've gained even more for my collection. Which I'll admit, the ONLY problem with Kickstarter backed dice sets is that most of them aren't replaceable if you have some bad fortune and lose em. I'll probably get the Avernus and Ravnica kits just to get their dice sets as well.(the dice tray boxes will be nice to have as well.) The metal Icewind Dale dice set is going to be another purchase as well, though its not high on my list at the moment since I already have a full set of the black and red DND metal set.

At this rate, I probably have enough for 5E's needs while also having a spare set or two to hand out at the table should somebody need one for a session.

I find whether Im DMing or playing, I've downsized the amount of dice I use at the table. It seems to speed things up for me. My standard table dice array and box of dice. After I all these years I still have no clue what the d30 is for, I just use it to scare my player's by randomly rolling one at no particular time with the caveat that if I roll a 30, someone DIES!!!!! Has yet to happen though.

PC's have a heart attack when a 30 is finally rolled: shopkeeper dies on the spot due to a heart attack.
I dont know, hasnt happened but I cant wait until it finally does. The possibilities are endless but Im sure it'll be hilarious and I'll roll randomly to see who dies in whatever the scene they are currently in. It'd be great if the Great Wyrm Dracolich in the final battle breaks a hip from osteoporosis. I've fallen and I can't get up. Bet you wish you had a Life Alert bracelet in your treasure hoard now, GOT MILK?

Ah, I love thread necros!

To the OP:

Technically, you could get away with just three dice: d8, d12, d20.

I have a d20 that is listed as 0-9 and 0+ through 9+. If I had similar dice in a d8 that was 1-4 and 1+ to 4+, and a d12: 1-6 and 1+ to 6+, then I wouldn't even need a d4, d6, or d10.

Otherwise, only 1 of each. You don't need anymore than that.
