What is this I don't even

The class I want to see come out would be something like an Exorcist/Archivist. Your witch hunter/inquisitor. Similar to the Avenger, but where the Avenger is all about getting into a demon's face, hounding it down and smiting it with a holy weapon, this class would be about standing at a distance and banishing the demon back to the Abyss.

The powers would look like someone took a Scourge warlock and gave it a Laser Cleric/Invoker's clothes: single target radiant damage with perhaps effects like ongoing damage, daze or rare immobilize.

I appreciate the elegance of the E-classes, but would not want to see it handled without AEDU. Perhaps handle it like the Warpriest with their domains. The only real thing that I think is awesome that would work from the E-classes is to take a note from the Thief/Hunter's Knacks/Tricks - and base those on ancient Church lore/esoteric monster knowledge.

Although I think putting it under the Avenger would be even better (to get access to the Avenger's utilities, which thematically the best).

I would think it would probably work as an invoker variant. The warlocky concept fits, and it should straddle between striker and controller. I could see it getting something like the binder/cleric, with choice of any dailies, but at-will/encounter powers 'on rails', so that if it's a striker with controller tendencies, it can't just grab pure controller powers while getting striker damage features. Admitedly, putting it under Avenger would at least mean that someone might use those implement powers ;)

I agree with Walter that this would be a sub-build of the invoker. There is already some support for this in the form of the Divine Philosopher paragon path and the Lorekeeper epic destiny. I think we could build on that to produce a serious archivist.

Also, good to see you around again Rechan. Hope school is going well!

I'd personally want to lean away from too much controller in my striker. You have that already with the Sorcerer and Warlock. Various other classes (like the Ranger and Rogue) have status-effect powers with ongoing damage, dazes et al without being too heavy in the control department.

And yes - using the Implement powers of the Avenger is a plus, because in general a regular Avenger won't use those because they do not work off the Avenger's double-roll class feature.

Meh. :) I'm sort of burnt out of gaming still. However my writing career is taking off.

There -is- a Controlling Avenger build that uses Implement powers! It takes the Dragon 382 powers -- Glaring Admonition, and Radiant Beconning, plus the implement powers that always get an Oath reroll (several encounter powers + Bond of Censure). I admit I've never seen it played, though, whereas a normal melee Avenger is really common.

My DMG only has 200+ pages in it. Where's a DMG with 382 pages?

I'm looking at the powers in the Divine Power, and so far only see Bonds of Censure giving the reroll to enmity targets.

Also, many of the Implement powers in Divine Power also draw the target to you. For a ranged attacker, that's well, bad.

I believe he meant Dragon Magazine, they had a class acts article with a few powers that have the equivalent of Oath of Enmity at range.

Figures. It was even a Dragon I had access to when I had DDi. :p

Rechan: :) Sorry about writing DMG when I meant Dragon. Fixed it.

The two powers I mention are daily attacks that as an effect give you the reroll on -all- Avenger implement powers you use for that encounter. So with those, a mostly-implement Avenger can get their accuracy bonus on most of what they do.

There's also Avenging Shackles -- a RBA at-will which can therefore get Oath with just a feat, and which slows your oath target and does 1d8+Wis.

Seeking brand is an encounter version of same -- except that it's not an RBA (but comes with an oath reroll) and slows anything it hits [and does 2d8+wis)

Lifedrinking Covenant's an E13 that does 3d8, comes with oath rerolls, and does 5 damage for each square the target moves until EOT.

And there's an epic in the same family, but it's kinda lame. (3d8, prones, another 10 damage if the target gets up).

That is pretty limiting though. That you need to use a daily just to use your ranged powers with your class feature.

And it looks like there are few and far between. Not optimal for basing a character around it, if you don't want to get into melee.
