What is your favorite city to base your campaign around?

One city does not make a realm. Not only do you have to concern yourself with "Which city is the best available?", you should also think about "Which city works the best for what I want in this campaign area?" Adventurers are a traveling group, and no matter how cool the city they're in is, it is always neat to go somewhere else.

My 2 cp.

I will say there some great Scarred Lands cities that can stand alone, but probably Hollowfaust (so far) stands out as one of the best, for most unique cities ever.

Since there are several of us involved in this module project and we all run in differnt areas of the scarred lands then you should look for the modules to be all over as well. the current thinking is to run a series in one place then do the next series somewhere else in the SL

Kyria, the capital of The Kyrian Confederacy. It's not the largest city in the confederacy and there are even larger cities elsewhere on the continent of Ropa, but it's an adventurer's town.

I own Bluffside, but haven't incorporated it into anything yet. Likewise, Ludnum of "The Canting Crew." I also own The Hunt and Kalamar. Just too many places to party and not enough parties to fill them!

Oh, another note about Bluffside. The vault, you can download the maps of the city, place in a Word document and add your own locations!

People were hot for Freeport when it came out and it is a wonderful beautiful product but time has shown that Bluffside is more player/DM friendly providing a homebase for your party. Its drop-in nature easily adapts to different game sytles.

There are also other noteworthy city books out too. Highthrone from Mongoose, Geauvea (not spelled correctly) for KoK, and a number of more.

Fantasy: Calimport (in the Forgotten Realms). I love that city. Honorable mention: Waterdeep and Suzail (also both in FR).

Futuristic: Mega-Tokyo (BGC) or Macross City (Macross).

Re: Lankhmar

Don't know. WotC definitely won't bother with it, that is for sure. I would like to see it appear - even if the City State is kinda lankhmaresque, too. (It even has a Golden Lamprey, a Silver Eel, it is near a swamp... Definitely Leiber-influenced.)

Who currently owns the rights to the Nehwon/Lieber stuff? WotC?

Stick with Freeport, matey, you won't regret it! The original d20 city is still the best IMO. What you need to remember about Bluffside is it's sort of a "homegrown" EN product so it enjoys a lot of support here, but it's worth remembering that it's Freeport that took home the ENnie last year.

I have no issues with Freeport I do truly love that city as well and feel they compliment each other. And it is overall a "higher quality piece", color map, and hrdcover etc...

But so we set the record straight, Freeport and Bluffside came out at the same time and it was not homegrown here although I do spend time on the boards.
I was at GTS in Vegas March of last year and both Freeport and Bluffside had their debut there.
And Freeport did take home the ENnie last year, and deserved it so lets not get mean, in fact I told Chris and Nicki that it was an honor to lose to them because of how great Freeport is. they are different enough so depending on what you want out of a city one may be better suited for you. Either (or both) would do any campaign an honor and will treat you right.

I own both and love 'em.

I think it is up for grabs... At least I read something like that on a message board. Don't know where. Of course, if a d20 publisher got it, they would have an interesting problem - license the TSR property or write their own and cause confusion?

My all time favorite is Sigil. You just can't beat the mood, tone, feeling, and sense of wonder and jaded irony that spills from that city. The city in the Epic Handbook (the name escapes me) is similar, but lacks the spirit Sigil had.
Someone needs to get a good book on Sigil out (they don't need the whole setting, JUST Sigil) and I'll be one happy man.
