I checked off 10-15, because that's where I've had the most fun with my characters (or 7-15, really). But I've never played anything beyond 15th-level for more than a one-shot, so I can't say for sure that I'd prefer medium-high level play (11-15) to high-level play (16-20) or epic (21+).

Amazingly (or perhaps not) I like playing at exactly the same level as I like GMing -- 3-8. Not too weak, just confident enough, not too many wonky powers. Lotta fun in that range! :)

Hm. The fun is not really in the level, but in the roleplayers and the story. Different levels are good for diffeent kinds of stories. I have a pretty wide range of stories I enjoy, though.

Big thing for me - I really don't like playing high-level if I haven't played through the low levels.

9-13, and probably higher since 13th is the highest I've played. I just like the options available at those levels, and the power trip too

3-epic here. One and two can work, too, when the DM starts with non-combat challenges, or the campaign is very dangerous, anyway, and the players have to feel that they're vulnerable (it works well with Midnight, for example). But generally, it's quite easy to be downed with a single strike in these levels (especially for an arcanist), and the DM has to be very cautious. But other than that, everything is cool (and 1st and 2nd can be nice, too)

6, 13, and 18, although some epic is fun, although it's more only fun on neverwinter for me -- I like high-powered, but epic is off the charts whacky, too much instant death and hard to scale stuff. 21-24 stay kinda fun though, and you can do some whacky stuff.
Don't like low levels that much for D&D. I'd probably change my mind if I played Eberron, though -- I like the PCs in my games to be on par with everybody else in the world, not stronger, but not a lot weaker. Well, I'm running onto a tangent.

I made two votes...

Level 6: This is where I think D&D really hits its groove. You're no longer easy to take down with one hit, you've got a bit of fire power, and odds are you're looking toward your character's future.

Level 18: By now the dreams you had for your character should be realized. If you've got a prestige class, you've maxed it out. And you get the knowledge that you are indeed one bad mutha (shut your mouth). Yes the game can be tedious at this high of level (especially for pure spellcasters) but I rarely play pure spellcasters... if I do make a spellcaster I usually do something creative with them... Barbarian/ Invoker / Rage Mages or my newest freakish achievement the Warforged Battle Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple with the vow of poverty. With the right feat selection these "bastardized spellcasters" can still be deadly (Dont try to tell me that the above Warforged with the Arcane strike feat doesn't make you cringe), and I dont have to go out of my way to learn the spell descriptions of some of the more out there spells available.

I voted 1-10 or so. Those are the levels I enjoy playing and DMing most. I like the gritty, more realistic feeling of the low levels (1-3), where almost any threat can become dangerous, and the competent, but not godlike mid levels (4-8 or so) where the characters can hold their own, but still have to worry about mundane foes. Higher levels (9+) quickly begin to lose their appeal to me- the game becomes too complex, and the characters become godlike with superhero-like powers. Plus, its really hard to challenge the characters without using bizzarre monsters, outsiders, undead, or templated creatures- and how many of those realisticly roam around? The game just falls apart IME at high levels, both ruleswise and in terms of consistency. I want the PCs to be people who exist in a world, not above and beyond it.

I voted for 1-8. After level 8, it's still just fine, but there's an obvious decrease in the fun factor for me, which makes the game relatively unfun (yeah, not a real word) for me around level 13 and beyond. Level 9-12 is 'average' fun, at best.

The reason I like the low- to mid-levels is because, 1.) They're generally more dangerous, and 2.) Combat is less complicated (and therefore faster) than the higher levels. It isn't so bad with a low-magic system like Grim Tales, where there aren't so many spells to slow down that 5 round fight from half an hour to two hours, but I'd still say it starts to get too damn* slow when the warriors get their 4th attack at level 16.

*Can I say that?
