I thought the warforged were different (first living construct...ever?). Maybe there was just too much hype prior to Eberron coming out?

Hardly. First in D&D, maybe, although I think someone else did them before Eberron. WEG's Star Wars had droid PCs in the 80s, and constructs ain't nothin' but droids.

I like changelings and warforged - but I chose changelings on the poll, because they fill a niche that I've always wanted to be able to play, but never had an available LA+0 race to do so with.

I thought the Races books did a pretty good job with each of the new races... I want to try out Illumian, but picking my favorite new race is tough.

Depends on the definition of living and construct. :)

Sure, the exact stats and such aren't the same, but they are, essentially, living constructs.

Droids are sentient. Sentient != living. I'm unsure whether I'd even consider "living constructs" living.

In a D&D world, it's probably got something to do with positive energy.

My favorite of those listed is the elan. They're cool.

The assertion that the new races are just a bunch of numbers is, IMO, obviously false. They've got scads of flavour text, 'specially the ones in the "Races of X" books. Not sayin' it's necessarily good (or bad) flavour text, but it's there.

I voted Shifter. I think a cool variant would be a trait that gives them a membrane connecting their wrists to their ankles allowing them to glide. Those could be the descendants of werebats. It would fit with their background but more importantly would reaffirm one thing: Yazirians are cool.

Warforged are sweet but mostly as one of the "sidekick" races, like dwarves.

I like warforged primarily because of how well they've been connected to the history and society of their setting. On a different level, too, their being so recently a part of the world of Eberron means that their place in it can be defined by individual DMs for their own campaigns.

They also look to play very differently from other characters, which is a more limited form of novelty. :)
