Dark Sun is my favorite of the settings I've actually used, but I have to give props to Al-Qadim too.

Warcraft, it fills my uber high fantasy needs without the crazyness of FR.

Dark sun - harsh and gritty (pun intended) with great races and a purpose behind exploration and animosity. I bought into what was happening there more than I ever have in an FR or similar environment. There was a reason you were tough, a reason to expolore ruins, a reason to stay in the shadows, and a reason to fear halflings!

It was the best, but even with the 3e stuff in the mags lately it isn't easy to recreate.
