I voted for converting, since I think we will still be at it in my current campaign. Should we finish that before, We will start at first.

I can't wait to see all the conversion charts that will come out the first week of 4E. It's going to be more analyzed than Monday Night Football on ESPN ;)

Wait to see the reponse when eveyrone realizes magic missle has been removed from the spell list and you have to buy the PHB2 to get it :)

If I were playtesting, I'd want to take a shot at converting the game I'm in now (although briefly on hiatus), which would probably mean starting at 18th level. But how can I possibly know what a gaming group where I DM only rarely (and until starting a SWSE game a few weeks ago it had been 'never' rather than rarely) will be doing next May?

The way to bet -- assuming most of us like 4e and want to switch -- is that we'll finish whatever we're doing and start over at 1st level. But we might be in the middle of a campaign we like, and so will convert it in-place. And if I'm running things, I usually like to start at at least 2nd level because some concepts are inherently multi-class and I want to allow them from the start.

Might as well try it out from the start. It's the only way to get a real feel for what's right or wrong with the game at each level.

So playtesting rumors have it that 4E characters will be the equivalent of 4th level 3E characters. Does that change anyone's thoughts on how they'll go about it?

I wish to test this 1st level Hero thing.
I expect to start at first level, too. Although I don't think we'll convert our Epic Level Gestalt Planescape game, and that might not be finished by the time 4E rolls around.

1st.

The major difference is going to be in character abilities, so starting at 15th won't give the experience of learning the abilities in an orderly fashion.

Cheers!
