I'm interested in what character-level of game players & GMs like to play at. I've GM'd a lot of deity-level play, when I'm not doing that I like low level games as a relaxing break.

Never played much beyond lower teens back in 1e/2e.

I voted 9-14, but haven't played much above that so I may be inclined to move that range upwards as we progress in our 3e campaigns. The campaign I've been running for about a year and a half has the PCs around 9-11th level right now, but I'm really looking forward to getting them into the upper teens (and beyond, once ELH is released).

Hi Simon! :)

Craig I'm wondering if you're happy with Thrin as a lesser god or if you'd prefer to play in a super-deity campaign... .

As you know I can handle the full spectrum, I'm sure Super-deity would be fun, though I voted for "Deity (Up to Greater Power)".

I could just have easily ticked all the above (if you had allowed multiple choices?), but I'm sure there will be more than enough people ticking the (relatively) lower levels.

What?

No other?

You thought other wasn't required?

My favourite would be: High to epic that began at 1st.

No, no "other" - you have to choose what level you most enjoy _actually playing at_ - hopefully most high level PCs will have started as low level (ideally at 1st) and I think I've covered all possible actual levels other than 'below 1st', which is theoretically possible as a single-classed 1/2-level apprentice, although I haven't distinguished non-deity over-40th from deity-level, I guess.

My evil plan was to force people to make a single choice! :)

I ticked 2nd-3rd as that's what I'm currently playing & GMing in several games, and enjoying. However it seems there's a clear preference for 4th-8th, where PCs are tough enough to take a few knocks but don't have ready access to raise dead, teleport et al that really change the game from 9th level on.

Although having said that, I keep fantasising about my 3rd-level STR 17 Fighter, Squire Varioth, getting to 4th level: Weapon Spec & STR 18 will take his bastard sword attack from +7/1d10+3 to +9/1d10+6 - or +5/1d10+10 with power attack. Yeah! :)

It's the simple pleasures that are best in life...

I would have to say 9th-14th, that's when the characters really start to come into their own, the magic items start to be cool and your finally able to lay down some serious smack.

Interesting that no one has voted 15th-20th yet. My experience of 1st ed AD&D at those levels was that the PCs tended to dominate their surroundings and there were few good challenges - after all 'Queen of the Demonweb Pits' was for 10th-12th level! - but 3e is specifically intended to be playable at all levels.

Im a big fan of levels 4-10. You're getting powerful, but can still get clobbered by a gang of orcs. Of course, you can always add 20 levels of monk to the orcs, but that's unrealistic. For rank and file mooks I never add more than five class levels.
