What movies are you waiting for this year?

Assen> the buzz on the Alamo is bad? Dang, I was looking forward to that one... it looks pretty cool in the trailer.
I'd have to say the big movie I'm looking for is Troy. The trailer is gorgeous... the CGI scenes are damn good... LOTR good, in fact; the scene of the 'thousand ships' on the sea is spectacular...

I have heard fairly little about the Alamo movie, which is odd considering I'm sitting 10 miles from the real thing right now and the movie is opening this week. A while back when the movie was in development I heard worries that the "balanced portrayal" the makers of the movie have promised is going to amount to tearing down the Texan heros of the Alamo and building Santa Anna up into a hero. One of the worries I've heard is that the movie will spend too much time focusing on showing the flaws of the Texan heros and not enough actually telling the story of the battle. I guess we'll know more after tomorrow.

I'm always worried about a movie that was supposed to come out around Christmas, then quietly got extended to April, and comes without much of a splash. When that happens it's usually a case of editors desperately trying to make a clunker watchable.

Too bad; the first previews I saw really got me excited about it. Having grown up Texan, and lived there for more than 25 years of my life, I feel somewhat invested in the movie in some ways. Heck, all the of schools I went to as a kid were named after heroes of the Texas Revolution, including Crocket, Travis, Bowie, etc.

Very informative post.

What is known about htis King Arthur movie? First I heard of that, I believe

Apparently, Arthur's a Roman.

I've read some things that Arthur was a Romanized Briton, which seemed okay, but this...eh. I'll hit this on a matinee.

Definitely plan on seeing (Opening night if possible, unless noted):

The Punisher (04/16)
Kill Bill 2 (later on) (04/16)
Van Helsing (05/07)
Troy (05/14)
HP: PoA (06/04)
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (06/11)
Spider-Man 2 (06/30)
King Arthur (Matinee) (07/07)

The only one of these that was added to the list recently was Sky Captain. The trailer that played with Hellboy rocked on toast, despite the Stargate theme; it rather fit, really. What was annoying was the fire alarm in the middle of the *&^% trailer...

I'm a bit worried that I'll be dragged to see Harry Potter at a 6 AM showing, as my Potter-obsessed friend is a morning person.

I'm sure I'll be dragged to the new Resident Evil movie by my friend.

I saw the trailer for Spider Man 2 last night. It made me want to see it.

I saw the King Arthur trailer with Hellboy. I don't know if it will annoy Arthurians the way Connery's masterpiece did, but it looks like a good make-you-want-to-play-D&D kind of movie.

Hey, my 100th post. Do I get a merit badge?
