What next for FR?

Buy novels.

I think you're overlooking the most obvious rebuttal, which is that Ruins of Adventure and Curse of the Azure Bonds are some of the most beloved products from previous editions, and those are the books most closely emulated by Mysteries of the Moonsea. All of the adventures from those books could have been written by 12 year olds in ten minutes. After all, we see twelve year olds routinely releasing books of that nature, somtimes six or seven a day! They're so common that you can't escape your typical bookstore without seeing at least ten of them.

I'd be very surprised if this format becomes standard. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if WotC does a more traditional treatement of the Moonsea in the next year or two.

I think I smell a way to get my $10 back. :p

It's honestly the first FR release that I have had no desire to purchase in a few years....

Hopefully WotC isn't going this way with all their books for FR..

I agree with Darrin, I doubt you'll see all campaign arcs in lieu of regional sourcebooks. I just hope we have a mix of them in the future.

I'd love to see (1) Kara-Tur, (2) Cormyr/Sembia, (3) the Dales. Looks like WotC is stepping away from regional sourcebooks, though; other than Moonsea, which may or may not have been meant to be a regional sourcebook depending on who you talk to, there are no other R.S's planned for the next nine months that I've heard of. It's too bad, becuase if they're well done, they're basically a license to print consistent money as FR fans and DMs will gladly snap up well-done books in that line.

What I'd most like to see, in order:

  • Old Empires
  • The Sea of Night (the moons and other worlds of Faerun's galaxy--I'd like to see rules on travling between worlds, rather than between planes)
  • Monsters of Faerun II
  • Maztica
  • Zakhara
  • Kara-Tur

What I don't want to see (and definitely won't buy): Anything on the retconned cosmology.

I'd like to see the following:

1. Mulhorand (to include Murghom, Semphar and Unther)
2. Chessenta & the Vilhon Reach
3. Zakhara
4. Kara-Tur
5. Bloodstone Lands (Vaasa, Damara, Narfell, Great Glacier)
6. Cormyr & Sembia
7. Cormanthor & the Dalelands

I am far more willing to spend money on regional sourcebooks than on FR rules supplements (though I am looking forward to Dragons of Faerun)

Agreed. Worst idea they ever came up with. I stick with the Great Wheel for my game, and Lolth's Silence was simply her scrapping the design of the Pits and rebuilding the layer from scratch (and in the process kicking out all the other drow deities who resided there).

What was the official version? I don't even try to keep up with that kind of thing...
