What old books do you still own? The first OD&D box anyone?

Oh my. I've got way too much to name -- at one point TSR should have given me a stock report I owned so much.

- Many, many Dragon & Dungeon magazines
- All original 1E books including the Cthulu Deities & Demigods (soda stained unfortunately)
- Most original 1E modules including all that Gyagax authored & the monochromes
- Many 2E adventures & books, and at least 12 boxed sets (Greyhawk & FR stuff, etc.)
I enjoy modules the most and probably have at least 60 of them in various states of disrepair.

I've also picked up a few items in dusty bookstores over the years & tucked them away including shrink-wrapped copies of: Chainmail, Monster & Treasures Assortment, G3 Hall of the Fire Giant King (wizard logo), L1 Secret of Bone Hill, and two basic boxed sets with the red dragon cover.

I shudder to think how much I've "invested" over the years, even though I've gotten great, long-lasting (years!) enjoyment from these things...

I have:

The Trampier Basic and Expert boxed sets in fair condition

Obscene amounts of modules for Basic and AD&D

Greyhawk folio

Greyhawk boxed set

Fiend Folio w/ Cthulhu, Elric in near-mint condition

However my prize (oddly enough) is the British edition of the red basic set. It came in one compact, small volume. It does rock indeed. :)

Hmm...

Anyone know the difference between these?:
I have 2 boxed sets of basic D&D. They both have a rulebook and the Keep on the Borderlands module. One of them has plastic dice. The other has squares of perforated cardboard with the corresponding dice numbers printed on them, that must be torn apart, and apparantly drawn out of a bag or something.
I'd guess the one with actual plastic dice is newer. These are both "sealed" (I got them as part of my payment for working at a convention a few years back) but the newer one has clearly been resealed. I'm not sure about the cardboard dice one. It looks like original wrapper, and there's an old crusty yellow price tag on it that says $3.99...

Unfortunately, my wife and I just bought a new house and decided to clear out most of our old stuff for a little extra cash to help with the move, but mostly so we had less to move. We sold a couple of Deities and Demigods (with and without Cthulu), a few OD&D Players handbooks, DMGs and Fiend Folios. Original Oriental Adventures and Forgotten Realms(I think) campaign books. All in all I'd say it wasn't worth it (even though we of course haven't touched these books in decades) because they really didn't go for much, and the move was a hassle anyway! They looked great on our bookshelf. Ah well.

Later!

I've got the complete run of OD&D books, plus 3 old Strategic Reviews. Of course the covers on Vol 1 and Vol 2 have disappeared over time, but that is because they were used and loved.

Then again, I also have some non-TSR "supplements" from the same time, but I haven't looked at these in years. Included is, of course, The Arduin Grimoire (Vols 1-3), but also some more obscure texts, some of which are off-print.

And once you get out of D&D, I have a ton... I have something like 4 bookshelves (6 ft wide) full of the stuff

I've been gaming for 30 years and have kept most of my books. A lot of different systems, a lot of different editions, very few pre-published adventures.

For differences between various printings, I can't recommend The Acaeum enough: http://www.acaeum.com/ The TSR Archive is also quite good, especially for materials later than what the Acaeum covers: http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/

If folks have rarer stuff like early non-TSR books, convention tournaments, etc., I'm always interested in information about them to add to my Tournament History page at http://www.greyhawkonline.com/grodog/gh_tourneys.html and other ongoing research projects for my site (mostly Greyawk focused) and at the Acaeum :D

My greatest treasure is a 5th printing White Box OD&D set. It is white (well, creamy yellow due to age :heh: ), but still has balrogs and hobbits in it. I also own all but one of the OD&D supplements: Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldritch Wizardry, Gods, Demi-Gods and Heroes... Swords and Spells, I do not.

I also have a large and growing Judges Guild collection, including some of the original "Guideline" booklets that were mailed to subscribers.

For 1e AD&D and various Basic editions, I have a lot of rulebooks and modules... I am still looking for an affordable and complete Holmes Basic set.

Oldest one I have is that blue cover basic set rulebook listed as second printing in Acaeum, Copywright 1979 I believe. But I got that at a used bookstore in the 90s. The first one I got was the basic set rules with the red cover rules and Erol Otus artwork, 81 or so. I accidentally left the book out in the rain once but it just made the pages look cool.

I don't have that much D&D stuff - my brother mostly has that including the three books from the White Box edition, 1e rulebooks, etc.

What I have is D&D supplements
City State of the Invincible Overlord
Wilderlands of High Fantasy
Shield Maidens of Sea Rune
Pirates of Hagrost

Other rulesets
Runequest2
Metamporphosis Alpha
