Duckbear...

Butt-head.png

...huh-hu, huh, hu, hu, hu.

Owlbears.
  • Polar owlbear: We already have this one.
  • Brown owlbear: A huge variety.
  • Black owlbear: Typical.
  • Barn owlbear: A small, nocturnal variety that inhabits human structures.
  • Horned-owlbear: With spikes on its head.
  • Grey owlbear: This one can talk for some reason.
The recent Lost Tomb of the Bitchin' Chimera from Severed Books/the Dead Milkmen features a Burrow Owlbear (of course).

If you want an area that could use a lot of fleshing out: Rakshasa, which could be extended to any sort of animal-fiend. Lots of opportunities to do stuff there.
So like,
  • Tiger: Typical and charisma focused.
  • Lion: Constitution focused.
  • Leopard: Strength focused.
  • Mountain leopard: Dexterity focused.
  • Caracal: Intelligence focused.
  • Pallas: Wisdom focused.
  • Elephant: Infiltrates the working class.
  • Cow: Infiltrates the priestly class.
  • Peacock: Infiltrates the noble class.

Modrons are already conveniently divided up, too.
Yeah but different kinds of modrons.
  • Geometric: Shapes, typical.
  • Mathematic: Operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, exponentiation, tetration...).
  • Astronomic: Mass (planet, brown dwarf, red dwarf, whi...no not going there, yellow star, red giant, black hole).
  • Subatomic: Particles (electron, proton, neutron, quarks, leptons, hadron, muons, gluons, ad infinitum...).
  • Quantum: ???

Yeah, and those are all balls with variable numbers of eyes. The 2e beholders I mentioned above very much weren't that.
Not completely, but definitely not as diverse as the 2e ones you noted. I myself have converted the Hive Mother to 5e: Beholder Hive Mother I do like the idea of more beholder-kin, but I don't have much desire to covert the types you posted. They are just to far from the source IMO.

Numeric modrons: Each is unique and knows its exact place in the hierarchy. You could have an adventure set in an infinite hotel. Located somewhere in the hotel is the infinite modron...or is there?

You find what you think is the infinite modron, but, alas, there's another one right behind it.

Blink Dogs!
  • Blink dog: Natural use of the spell teleport.
  • True blink dog: Natural use of the spell blink.
  • Phase dog: An evil creature with the natural use of the spell blur.
  • Time dog: Natural use of the spell time stop.
  • Shard dog: Natural use of the spell mirror image.
Blink pit bull. Yeah, you want to stay clear of them
