What race can you not bring yourself to play?

I don't have many hangups with race, but Gnomes just don't do it for me. Half-Orcs can be fun, especially if you play them like Klingons (not the Worf kind, the seriously Mongols-in-Space kind).

I think the main problem for people who don't like the wee folk is the negative image generated for them by some bad published characterizations - like the kender (shudder, an entire halfling-like race designed to annoy everyone else in the party). The Gnome illusionist used to rock in AD&D, in 3.x it does not rock so much because people seem to think that a sterotypical Gnome must be a mad scientist tinkerer.

The Race / Class I cannot stand to play

1. Races:
Humanoid: DL Kender. Slay them ALL. I'd rather play a Giant Space Hamster from Starjammer than a kender. -- I think I'll try one as a monster in my next game: Hamstur the Unsqueakable, chaotic evil giant space hamster!

2. Classes:
To me, NONE of the core 3.5 DnD classes are totally unfun to play. Rogues are my least favorite, probably because I prefer to bash things with melee weapons. A Viking barbarian berserker in full rage with a maul or greataxe executing a whirlwind attack / Great Cleave on a slew o' foes -- that's entertainment!

I have to join the dogpile of halfling-hate. (shudder) Bunch of pot-smoking petty thieves.

I don't like elves much, but I could probably play one. No way in heck would I ever play an illumian.

"...yes, let's have a race with lights around its head. Oh, here, let's try and be stealthy now. Yay!"

You know the next time a thread starts turning into a really ugly fight, I'll just say something nice about gnomes and halflings and then people can turn their guns on me. Of course if I did, I'd probably be lying.

Personally, I think most the races could use a little tweaking before I'd jump at the chance to play them. But Half-Orcs are the ones that would need the most tweaking before I'd consider touching it. I like the idea of a race of big tough ugly brawler types, but the background for half-orcs is wretched and I think they get the shaft more than any other race in game mechanics. I'd be much happier if the mechanics for them were tweaked a bit and their background (and name) changed to something else.

I reserve my hatred for subraces. We don't need a thousand different varieties of every non-human race just so that every possible class combination can be played optimally by every race. That's why races have ability adjustments in the first place-- so that some races are better at some classes and worse at others.

Other than that, I don't normally play things that are Small, except Kobolds.

Half-elf. Just from a mechanical standpoint, it doesn't get any worse. Kobolds are better. Flavorwise, I could see playing one, but not unless the DM houseruled them some real abilities.

Half-orc. I love piling up the skill ranks, so -2 Int is a real negative. I did play one briefly once (psychic warrior) but to play another one I'd have to be playing a pure melee character and not worrying about Int and Cha. Again, if the DM houseruled their power up, I could see myself playing one.

I will not ever ever ever ever play a gnome. Nor will I ever ever ever ever play an elf.

Unless forced, I would not play a half-orc, or a half-elf, or a half-anything.

Humans and dwarves for me, baby! And if you absolutely insist, I'll play a halfling.

I've played all of the core races and had fun with each of them, so there's no dislike by race there. However, if I branch out to non-core races, Gully Dwarves instantly come to mind.

I'd likely play just about anything other than a Gully Dwarf.
