What RPG systems do you like?

By far the most accurate experience and damage systems were in the BRP/Runequest core rules. While BRP forms the core of Call of Cthulu, it is at its most perfected in third edition Runequest.

Runequest 4th Edition would have changed your mind very quickly! Unfortunately it never saw the light of day.

Outside of Runequest...

HarnMaster
DragonQuest
Traveller

With a secret place in my heart for oddities like Space Opera & Man, Myth & Magic.

...are my favorite non TSR/WoTC/Hasbro games (I dont' really consider Gamma World or Boot Hill to be "unique" games in their own right, they're variant D&D rules.)

I played and GM'ed Champions for over 7 years. Great game and system.

Loved the early Metamorphis Alpha and Gamma World.

Like the style of first edition Deadlands.

Liked Space Opera too.

My favorites are D&D 3rd and Call of Cthuthu d20 though.

Shadowrun did have a great setting, but when I played it (the first edition) the mechanics were hell. I haven’t really looked at it since then. Maybe they’ve cleaned it up, then I’d say it would be cool.

First edition? I feel your pain...

Trust me, the third edition rules are much better. Almost all wonky things have been cleaned up now.

Here's my top five:

- Shadowrun 3E (I just love the world and the rule system)
- AD&D 2E & D&D 3E (Both have their good points)
- Rolemaster (When I get bored of DD)
- Star Wars D6 (We have actually made this into a universal system for all genres)
- GURPS

Mystera: My own fantasy homebrew. It´s the game we are playing for five years now.

Exalted: Recently bought the hardcovers and absolutely love it. But I haven´t played it yet.

Witchcraft: Another favorite I want to play.

GURPS: Complicated but it was fun.

-Exalted/Tirnity: the two games use mostly the same system and is just great. We used Trinity each time we needed a scifi system for a game. +it's own background rocks too.

-Shadowrun: I no longer play that regularly but it's game system allways worked without any obvious flaws. And their magic system is one of the best around.

-Mage: Don't like the world of Darkness per se but the system of casting in Mage is the very best I ever saw.

-Deadlands: It works. I still don't know how but the system never showd any problems and we played in a weekly session for over a year.

-Feng Shui: Fast and easy. Never had a system that could be run so easily.

That was only 'bout the game systems not about the game itself. If I consider backgrounds this would change a lot.

Unisystem Lite: Hands down my favorite non d20 system---and the *only* system I'd use for a modern/cinematic game.

Every time I sat down and tried to whip up a d20 Modern game, I found Unisystem handled everything much more smoothly.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

Favourite rules these day, except d20?

HeroQuest, an astounding narrative system that handles just about everything. Want to have a marriage negotiation as the dramatic point of the evening? Also, as a GM, I can pace the game as I want. It takes a little effort to get used to it, though.

Over The Edge, for modern games. Simple, flexible, and very good.

Sorcerer looks promising too. I'll hopefully test it this evening.
