Isn't saving vs a spell resisting the spell? Resistance is resistance whether it's from a racial ability, and magic items, or a save. If you're gonna DM with it thst way, more power to you. I'll come to your table and exploit it all night, but come to my table, it won't fly.

No. It is not. It is somehow, someway avoiding the full effects of the spell. That is not the same thing as resistance as outlined on page 197.
By your logic, if a monster is resistant to poison and is hit by a Ray of Sickness spell, he would take the half damage, as we all agree; but then he would ALSO automatically make his saving throw and avoid the poisoned condition. Your ruling has effectively given the monster immunity to the poison condition in this case.
Clearly a saving throw is a completely different type of resistance than RESISTANCE.
