What settings do you love?

Gotta give the love to GREYHAWK. HARNWORLD gets a close second, though.

I also loved the goofyness of TUNNELS & TROLLS default setting (whose name I cannot recall just now), but after reading the T&T rules I thought it'd be too much of a hassle to convert.

First: Third Edition! *waits for Captain America*

I've wanted to do that for a couple of days.

Second: as a resource, I might recommend Monte Cook's Chaositech, from Malhavoc Press. It's very useful for Barker- or Giger-inspired body horror, and it can easily be turned in the direction of Dick- and Gibson-style cyberpunk-without-the-cyber - especially the posthuman elements.

It's not a setting by any means, but it does have backstory elements (such as the alien Galchutt with whom the chaositech originated) that can help flesh out a setting. Seems to me like you're going to be doing a bit of kitbashing to get what you want anyway.

For an active game I thourghly enjoy Eberron.

For something harder to get resources for I enjoy Darksun also.

Though I never played Scarred Lands it is the setting I have "borrowed" from the most in the past few years.

I'm trying for a kind of grand, sweeping game with elements of epic, Howard-esque stories, Clive Barker style sexualized horror, and some punk influence on it too(think Blade Runner and Neuromancer, although obviously not with that kind of technology).

Also, Chaos Magic Theory as laid down by the Church of Thanateros.
Interesting mix.

Planescape could probably be milked to get those elements out of them. I think Iron Kingdoms also offers some of these.

Lastly, out of the D20 mix, IMO, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition sound like a possible fit for you.

I feel like this could be done really well with Eberron, what with its deliberate homage to pulp/noir, and its elements of Weird Tales style horror (Xoriat and the cults of the Dragon Below). It does also have the potential to be very epic.

I'd also second Iron Kingdoms.

As it happens the Thieves' World Gift Set is about to release. It has the four original books we did plus a brand new adventure set in the classic era called Black Snake Dawn, all in a lovely slipcase. Plus, if you order from our website, you get a Thieves' World book plate signed by Lynn Abbey.

Mindshadows would be the other setting that I really love. It's not an entire campaign world, but it's an excellent mini-setting. Some of the rules needs tweaking, but the flavor is pitch perfect.--sam

How does Mindshadows compare to Sahasra and/or Mahasarpa (OA web accessory) as far as a fantasy indian setting? Is it pretty much just ancient india with d&d trappings bolted on, or does it feature new ideas?

The reviews I have read painted it as being not so deep. Just locations with indian flavor.

There is a pdf publisher who had released a few real-world magic systems for d20 games. The name of the series and company escape me, but I know one of the people posts here so mebbe someone else can fill in the blanks.
