Get rid of cleric too and I’m onboard.
I could be fine with rolling the cleric into the mage and the fighter and rogue together too. However, I feel that might become to much. I think there is an argument for four:
  1. an arcane spellcaster
  2. a magic user, possibly "divine" (not spells, something different)
  3. martial fighting class,...
  4. and a martial skill based class.

Only expurgation, no additive? I want to eliminate Vancian spell casting but we would need to replace it.
Eliminate status quo in the development of new content, particualrly in Unearthed Arcana tests. Do not make the original rules handcuff new ideas and new implementations. Change sucks. It is always going to poll poorly. Listen to constructive criticism but take a risk every now and then. Give us Psionics, not subclass pablum.

I'd prefer just Fighter, Rogue, and Caster, with hybrids. Classic clerics can be Fighter/Caster with an acolyte background and healing and buff spells.

It's not too hard to kill 5e characters if you put your back into it. Harder than 1e, sure, but in my Temple of Elemental Evil campaign, I killed about 15. What's really hard is imposing any kind of debilitating condition. Disease and injury should be, I don't know...things?
Yeah, I just make stuff up. In my current campaign I have two PCs that are "infected", no amount of healing divine or otherwise seems to fix it. Basically when they try it doesn't work and we get the whole "that should have worked" trope.

However, I also ensure that it's not too debilitating because that wouldn't be fun for my players either (different players may see things differently). So the effects are sporadic and getting permanently healed has become a side quest.
