They have said they are looking into adding other editions to the OGL or CC. Hence, I want the better license. I assure you, I know what the GSL is, and that it was one of the stupidest parts of 4e.4e was never protected by the OGL, it was under a different license (the GSL) which was much more restrictive. It also never had a proper SRD (like the ones for 3e and 5e). So they would have to create something that never existed. Not likely to happen until I take over D&D and call the shots; however, since I only moved to Seattle a year ago it is going to take me some time to wrangle up the capital* to make it happen!
*Actually, if things keeping going the way they seem to be going I may not need as much capital as I thought!![]()
The "said" that, but they really have only discussed 5e24 and 3e in any detail. Other editions were always a very weak maybe. They never really promised anything to begin with and definitely not for 1e, 2e, or 4e. I was asked for my wishlist. I was not asked whether that wishlist was guaranteed to happen. Your criticism might be warranted if I was merely inventing this CC license thing, since that would at least be me reaching for a license that hadn't been discussed when another (the OGL) already exists...for as long as WotC decides it exists, anyway. But they actually did discuss it. It's not beyond the pale. The "said" that, but they really have only discussed 5e24 and 3e in any detail. Other editions were always a very weak maybe. Could they do it - sure. But I don't find it likely and definitely not a priority. So you can put that on your wish list, just don't be surprised when you don't get it!
Of course I liked it - I would be thrilled if they deliver that!I was asked for my wishlist. I was not asked whether that wishlist was guaranteed to happen. Why are you going after my single wishlist item that might or might not actually happen? Have you interrogated other things similarly? Have you challenged books or ideas for which we have even less evidence than the above? Because I kinda feel like there's some singling out here. Hell, you even liked a post just upthread where someone said they wanted CC support for past editions!
So sorry for your loss.Of course I liked it - I would be thrilled if they deliver that!
I am not 100% sure why I engaged in this discussion with you, but I would say it is some mixture of the following:
- You mentioned the OGL and I wanted to clarify 4e was never under the OGL. That was initially why I responded to your post. I then simply attempted to clarify that putting 4e into CC was a much more difficult task than it is for 3e or 5e and, I thought humorously, implied it was a long shot. You could have simply liked my initial comment (or sad face or nothing or whatever) and that would be it. It really did need a response and was intended to be simply informative and light-hearted. I even said I would release 4e to CC if I was in charge. We then kept going back and forth for no good reason really. So why did you respond to my comment?
- The reason I probably continued the discussion, and possibly even why I instigated it, is I am trying to avoid dwelling on the death of my daughter and spiraling into an abyss of sadness, pain, and guilt. I do almost anything, often to my own determent, to distract myself from that pain. That is a big reason I come to EnWorld now as I no longer have the heart/will/energy most days to engage with D&D (or much of anything) productively.
I haven't read this since it came out in Jan of 1998, so my memory is a little vague. I remember it being a similar premise as Strixhaven. I recall liking the book, but as I'd assume as the same with Strixhaven it's a very niche D&D setting and experience. I got the impression that the premise can only go so far before it gets boring and stagnant, unless you have a really good group of players excited for the concept. I couldn't see a campaign lasting more than a few levels before it fizzles out.And although Strixhaven fell a bit short of the previous two attempts, it still had a fun concept that hadn’t really been done previously in DnD.
