Spire or Heart.

Yeah, either of these could work quite well. While both can be run as longer campaigns, of the two, I think Heart can easily work as a one shot... just do a single delve.

The other game that can work as a satisfying one-shot that I was thinking of is also by Rowan, Rook, and Decard... the DIE RPG. Yes, it can also be run as a longer campaign... but the book provides guidance on creating a satisfying one-shot, with a basic premise and steps you can follow to make sure it's all done in one session.

I second Numenera. Also, no one has mentioned Draw Steel yet. While it is getting some attention, it doesn't seem like enough considering how well their Kickstarter did. And as far as covering D&D (even as an April Fool's joke), why not cover it using the Level Up ruleset. Certainly that hasn't gotten as much attention as it should.

As a side note: That can be a Pod cast too; covering alternate rulesets or campaigns of D&D.
