D&D General What to Do with a Dragon Corpse?

MGibster

Legend
In my last session, the player characters defeated an adult black dragon and it was a lot of fun. At the end of our session, I told them I'd figure out something fun to do with the corpse. And by fun, I mean let's make some magic items. So think of what parts of the dragon you might use to make a magic item out of. Don't worry about what classes I have in the party or worry about the rules. Just think of this as an exercise in fun.

Armor from its scales?
Something from its horns?
What about it's organs?

I thought you made Fred Flintstone sized ribs and hung the head in your new tavern.

I have seen dragonscale armor that is scale mail with resistance to the dragon energy type.
A heart can be made into potions if heroism or invulnerability.
Powdered horn can be used to boost spells and make wands.
I even seen a horn made into a scimitar of speed.

Magic(+x and/or acid reistant) leather, studded leather or Hide armor, shields
Dragon scale mail (specific item)
Any items that grant acid resistance or cause acid damage, induce/resist fear, create darkness/see through darkness, summon insects or grants water breathing
Magic (+x, acid damage, dragon slaying) weapons (daggers, shortswords, spears, arrows, staves, clubs) made from teeth, claws, horns, bone

Daggers from the claws and teeth.
Rings from the bones. Perhaps type depends on which bone?
Wings of flying from wing leather.
Blood and other internal fluids - various potions and alchemical ingredients.
Intestines - special bow strings or ropes.
Some of the meat and organs may be much in demand in specialty taverns and inns. (Black Dragon rib eye on a bed of blood rice)
The reproductive parts might be in demand as a cure/aid for various issues(your choice as to effectiveness)
Amulets made from smaller teeth/claws.
Rib bones for the structure of a shield.
Various parts might be wanted by places with 'Dragon' in the name. What's a Dragon Inn without a dragon head as a mantle piece or a tail running the length of the bar?
An enchanted Dragon Foot where wizards check their staves? Enchantment automagically keeps track of which staff goes with each wizard. Anyone trying to take a staff not theirs has their clothing vanish and has a glitterdust applied - you are noticed!

A literal horn made from a horn. Gut strings for musical instruments.
Parchment for large books, and drumheads.
(Acid) resistant leather work apron for alchemists.
Scroll cases and wands made from some of the smaller bones. (Wing bones for wands of Fly?)
Assuming dinosaur sized bones...large carved plaques to adorn a throne/ spellbook covers/ coffers/ cut & carved into 'scales' for bone/leaf mail.
Sinews for compound bows.

Obligatory dragonburgers.
