What to run... what to run

The good news... I start a new campaign tomorrow.

But... we have two rank beginners. I had planned to run the Freeport trilogy and then segue into my River of Worlds campaign, but it's option heavy and I think that may not be the best choice for new players.

So, a number of other ways to start this out

Shackled City is begging to be used, but I don't know if I am in for a 20 level gaming commitment.
I just got Shades of Gray, still a pretty considerable commitment, but more importantly, I have yet to assess it.
I could start out with a Goodman "the adventure begins" adventure and then seque into Tomb of Abysthor for some classic dungeon crawl action.
Or Mad God's Key and... who knows
Or a classic, Of Sound Mind and... who knows
Or another classic... NeMoren's vault...
Or something else?

Edit: Drat... meant to add a poll, but closed my window. :(

You could run the 2-parter "Scourge of the Howling Horde" and "The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde". Well, at least I think it's only two parts. :)

Of course, that would require you to have SotHH... ;)

Cheers!

Yes, that would be a requirement. :)

And seeing's how I blew my month's budget between Shades of Gray, city works, and the merger sale, and the game starts tomorrow, not exactly an option.

Can I just say that the Whispering Cairn from Dungeon 124 is a great beginning adventure. Yes, it is the first for the Age Of Worms campaing...um...Adventure Path, but you can make your own follow ups and ignore the whole AOW thingy. The adventure itself requires brawn and smarts, and it has some nice nods to the DnD mythos (Wind Dukes, Rod of Seven Parts, etc).

You mentioned a Necro module. Have you downloaded the free beginning adventure The Wizards Amulet? You can go from there to Freya's Crucible. Those are both excellent if I remember correctly.

Actually, I've found that new players generally have the most open minds, therefore make the most use of options and open adventures. They aren't worried about the restrictions of the rules, so they do things that are cool and creative.

Just my input.

Agreed.

Goodman games from everything I have heard is well worth the start. Could even do something that will take 1 session from scratch.

Lots of good options here for the start of a new campaign. If I were starting something new for a new group of players, I'd probably go with Crucible of Freya by Necromancer Games. I think that's a great opener for a campaign, easy to run and "newbie friendly". There are so many good choices though in this situation, there is no "right" answer.
