Since there are a couple of threads that have taken us down memory lane. I would like to ask "What was the first Monster you killed in D&D and what class where you when you did it?" For me the first creature was an Orc, that I killed with my fighter that was packing a halberd.

Probably goblins. I played a magic-user in my first game (red box basic DnD). Fourteen goblins charged at us and I remember yelling out, "Sleep spell!"

I was eleven years old at the time.

I have no idea, but it was in module B1, so whatever was in the first room there. Probably some kind of intelilgent mushroom. Looking back, I wish I hadn't done it. He was a fungi.

Hah! Great idea!

The first monster I ever slew in a D&D game (well, it was actually an AD&D ... 2nd? Edition game) was a wolf.

I killed it with a mighty blow of my hand-axe, right between the eyes.

The DM described, in impressive detail, the effects of my first D&D combat - including an award of 10xp! So, naturally, I asked whether or not we got any gold for defeating our enemies.

Keep in mind that, up until that point, my only experience with roleplaying games was on Nintendo, and in both Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior you certainly got XP and gold for defeating wolves. Why wouldn't you in D&D, as well?

Well, once the rest of the group stopped laughing ("I mean, seriously, where would he keep it? Under his tongue?"), explanations were given, and the game proceeded apace.

I never used my potion of Cure Light Wounds during that session, however - I kept waiting to be inflicted with Light wounds (as opposed to, say, Dark wounds, or Axe wounds, or Fire wounds, etc.).

Yeah, I thought Light was an energy type. :D

A goblin a was an elf cleric and a whipped a throwing hammer at it thereby cementing my love for elves with throwing hammers.

lol, 2nd edition made my first fighter, my party got ambushed by 6 or so kobolds, and me being the only front liner i ran away :P my DM never did respect my fighter after that......lol

My first encounter was with an orc. But I didn't kill it, I ran away.

I don't know that I killed anything at all after that while playing basic D&D. B1 had no monsters in it, DM was supposed to put them in but he never did. I think during B1 we shifted gears and started playing AD&D. Campaign started with me locked in the Slave Pits of the Undercity.

Thus my first kill, as I remember it, was an aspis drone.
