What was your favorite monster (from MM, FF, or MM2)

Sorry, I'm too out of the loop with WOTCs new monster manuals, so I didn't include them.
Pick 1 only...I know its hard.

Mine: The Troll. This guy just "was" AD&D to me. Intellegent, humanoid but also monsterous and almost magical (in its regeneration ability) and being a fungus! The image of the troll putting out string (in the DMG or PH?) to lure and trick the underground adventurers...that really summed up the game for me.

I don't ever remember him being a fungus??? Really?

For me, it was probably the Arcanadaemon. Those wofl-headed guys were chock-LOADED with power out of the wazoo. There was something I enjoyed about his being able to "burning hands" every round, as wimpy as that was.

Bugbears. Without a doubt. Murder on low level parties, a real challenge for high-level ones. Throw in a couple of tribal witch doctors and a leader type and suddenly going off to attack that lone hill giant seems like a good idea! Seriously, moving silently, getting bonuses to damage, surprise bonuses, equal skill fighting in daylight or dungeons - gotta give the love to the bugbear!

On paper: Beholder. The actual fight never ends up all that great though.

I'd have go with the easy answer, dragon (any type). They're powerful, smart, and I haven't had a battle involving a dragon that wasn't memorable.

I couldn't possibly pick just one, but here are a few off the top of my head:

  • Ultradaemon
  • Shadow dragon
  • Githyanki
  • Hook horror
  • Tiamat
  • Demogorgon
