What would be the speed of...

Re: Thanks

That's a preety nice item. I will have to get my druid a pair.

Remember - the correct price is 6000gp, not 2500gp.

Just out of curiosity since we are on the topic, what would the limit on the jump distance be if the boots remove the height restriction?

Let's say for the sake of argument he has a Str of 14 (+2) and 5 ranks in Jump (+5).

The Boots give +10, so he has a modifier of +17. If he rolls a 10 on his d20, that's a total roll of 27.

The table says someone with speed 30 travels 22 feet with a roll of 27, assuming he has a 20 foot running start. However, we double that because his speed is 60, rather than 30, so with a 20 foot running start, he jumps 44 feet with a roll of 27. 20+44=64, more than he can make in a single move... so either he has to jump less, or take the double move action.

With a roll of a natural 20 (37) he would jump 64 feet with a 20 foot running start.

Make sense? :)

Yes it makes sense (although I don't know his STR)

However I believe our DM gave the boots at 4500 gp!!!

Maybe he is not O Wise One after all...

How about the distance without the 20 foot running start?

Thanks for the VERY quick replies by the way

Give a man a fish... :)

Open your PHB to p70 and follow the same steps I did before, but use the "standing jump" entry, not the "running jump" entry, on the table at the top of the right-hand column.

Yeahyeah... a DM in a PBeM seems to think so for his dwarven barbarian... Does anyone else see too many dwarven barbarians since 3rd edition (especially those with comp longbows?)?

If you think that it's logical that a naked dwarf with movement 30ft is faster than a human with movement 30ft but faster when both wear a chainmail, go ahead. And please tell me before I play in such a game :D

Sorry I was being lazy...

But I got up and grabbed my book (good rookie)

Assuming STR 14 and 5 ranks in jump (as before)

I get this:

If he rolls a 10 (+17 boots and all) for a 27 total he can jump
2 ft (base) + 2 ft (for rolling 27) = 4 ft

If he rolls a 20 (+17 again) for a 37 he can jump
2 ft (base) + 3 ft (for rolling 37) = 5 ft

Re: Sorry I was being lazy...

Double it, 'cos his speed is twice the baseline (30 ft).

So 10 ft on a 37. Bear in mind that that's 10 feet straight up - those are the figures for a standing high jump.

The initial example I gave was a running broad jump.

Yeah you're right (sorry it's late), I was looking at the high jump

For a broad jump it should therefore be:

If he rolls a 10 (+17 boots and all) for a 27 total he can jump
3*2 = 6 ft (base at 60 ft) + 2*2 = 4 ft (for rolling 27) = 10 ft

If he rolls a 20 (+17 again) for a 37 he can jump
3*2 = 6 ft (base at 60 ft) + 3*2 = 6 ft (for rolling 37) = 12 ft

I hope I have it right this time

Base (60 ft), so calculated in PHB as 30 ft then double gets:

Roll 10 (+17) total = 27
base jump 3 ft + 8 ft (for roll of 27 which is 8.5 rounded to 8) = 11
(x2) = 22 YEAH!!! I finally understand

Roll 20 (+17) total = 37
base jump 3ft + 13 (for roll of 37 which is 13.5 round to 13) = 16
(x2) = 32

WOW!! that's an impressive jump from a stand still

Thanks for the number lesson...

More reading for me in the future
