What would happen if WotC yanked the d20 License? [and OGL]

Why is this thread labelled as a 'review'?
In fact, why is every single thread I've seen Emirikol start labelled inappropriately?

These are issues for review..got a better listing?

Now, be nice. :)

Reducing his location listing to get back on topic

Just trying to lighten the mood, Jay, by actin' the fool. Don't mind me and, certainly, don't take offense.

But they can go to 4th edition (not OGL) and then what?

The world ends.

I mean, what answer are you looking for? Your question implies you have one of your own. Why not simply express it right from the outset?

What would most likely happen is that companies continue to use the OGL-compliant rules-set, the one that is, essentially, what we now know as d20. They will lose business to WotC and the new D&D rules-set, but I imagine it won't be as big a blow as some might think.

I'm interested to see what other people think about that topic :) Isn't that the point? I'm not here to write dissertations about stuff I'm not familiar with.

I'm actually not sure what the point is, to be honest. If WotC releases 4e as a non-OGL, non-d20 compliant game, all that will happen, essentially, is that the game industry will pretty much go on as it has, except then the OGL game that is, basically, d20 mechanically will be another competitor for D&D. Which it pretty much is now, anyway. But given the enormous disparity in market share between WotC and the rest of the RPG industry, it won't mean much in any event. Besides, it would greatly surprise me if WotC produced an entirely new game for 4e.

I am starting a new thread for this question, since it is not the subject of this one. Hopefully, I've asked it in a way that will focus the discussion a bit.

I think it's fairly obvious that the 'review' tag is for a book/game review, which is how every other poster seems to use it.

As for other categories - 'WotC' or 'General' both seem more appropriate.

I'm not trying to attack you here, but it's a consistent habit of yours, and I find it nonplussing if not quite actively irritating.

Actually this is a really good point. Not allowing 4e to be OGL and D20 tm compliant means that WOTC will create a 3.5 competitor that only encoruages the current market to stay with their 3.5 libraries and get support from companies like paizo, necromancer, goodman games and their like.
