One issue with the book format is in the UK tax on books is higher than tax on games. Amazon, by shipping from tax havens, are able to undercut high street prices. Switching to a boxed format would help high street retailers.

It's the other way around. Books are classed as educational and so are VAT-free. Put it in a box or add dice, and you add 20% tax, and potentially import duties as well.

I think the pattern they've had is fairly good. I'd like to see a full FR setting book, because I'm sick of the Sword Coast. Part of me would like to see a Greyhawk setting book, but I'm terrified about how badly they'd screw it up. A monster book and player book every other year is a nice balance. As much as I dislike APs, so long as they sell it's a good business model. I think 2 APs, 1 Setting, and 1 Player/Monster book a year seems about right.
