What Would You Screen at Cine Barsoom?

Hey, I'm up for more trailers. And "Trailer Night" sounds like a great idea -- though of course, at Cine Barsoom, you'll probably see trailers like those all the time, given our screening schedule.

The ushers just need night vision goggles and tranquilizer darts. Also, the theater should be tempest shielded so that cell phones don't work, and no one shall be admitted to the theater once the lights have gone down and the trailers started. Pony up a $5 cover charge, and you can bring whatever outside food and drink you want.

Oh, and if the theater is half-empty, and you sit *right in front of me* I am allowed to smack you upside the head.

Many of the movies listed are ones I've seen in classic real wide screen: The Godfather movies, 2001, Lawrence of Arabia, Blade Runner. They absolutely rock seen that way. But a complete genre has been largely left out. Classic musicals. Now, for the most part I hate, despise, loath musicals. But slap My Fair Lady on the big screen, and I'm there. These movies come alive when scaled up and in Surround Sound.

Pshaw! We do that already for free! Of course, we're "discrete" about it; my wife bringing her biggest purse and all that...

I always thought it'd be funny to convince her to wear a maternity shirt and wear a big ole bag of popcorn under it like she was 8½ monthes pregnant, and then walking out like she had had the baby in the theater or something. She's never agreed to do it, though.

A few years back, my parents were thinking of moving to a small town, and the local mom'n'pop movie theater was for sale. They really considered moving and buying the theater. I would have loved having my own movie theater, but mom just wanted it to show old movies (pre-1960) and dad wanted to turn it into an adult theater :D

Some goals are just mutually exclusive.

I do too. Can I invest?
Absolutely. Email me and I'll let you know who to make the cheque out to.

Actually, I had a discussion on this very topic with some friends over beer on the weekend (and you think this sounds like a good idea sober!) and apparently there are theatres much like this in Portland, Oregan -- they're called MacInnities, or something. Sort of a chain. But you can get beer and there's a table in front of each row of seats and they show whatever, whatever.

Not QUITE the plan I envision but they sound pretty cool. Any Americans know what I'm talking about?

Anyway, doing it here in Vancouver might be tough given the Nazi-like zoning/liquor laws we have here. But I dunno.

And without electronic distribution it doesn't really work the way I want it to. But could be time to start saving my pennies. I think, properly managed, this could be a winner...
