Whatcha Reading? (In August)

That sounds interesting. I much prefer weird in my sorcery to explosive fireballs. And I used to like Moorcock stories a lot, but haven't read any in a long time.

Yeah it's quite an interesting mix of stories. Just two left. Another story from the anthology that's excellent is The Sea Troll's Daughter by Caitlín R. Kiernan. Humour, drama and a few twists, plus a haunting ending.

Bill Willingham (of Fables) also has a story in there, sadly it's one of the worst of the lot.

Recently finished up Dance with Dragons and Ghost Story, and have been working through some series by Charles Stross (after being impressed with his Laundry series).

Was very disappointed in his Merchant Princes series (and bailed out after the second book), but much more impressed with Halting State, and just started on its sequel Rule 34.

As usual, juggling a few different formats:

Audiobook - The Oriental Casefile of Sherlock Holmes (a pastiche story collection)
Print - The Devil's Eye by Jack McDevitt
Kindle - The Cthulhu Mythos

I'm reading some section of [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0393329011]At Day's Close: Night in Times Past[/ame] by A. Roger Ekirch for a second time.

Not too much at the moment. The only thing I'm reading is [ame=http://www.amazon.com/This-Time-Win-Revisiting-Offensive/dp/1594032297]This Time We Win[/ame]: Revisiting the Tet Offensive by James Robbins.

I just finished Towers of Midnight by Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan. I hadn't read either of Sanderson's entries and I must say that I was very impressed. He really recaptured much of the magic of the first few WoT books. I am anxiously awaiting the final book next spring.

Next up is A Game of Thrones. I want to reread the first four book before I jump into A Dance With Dragons.

I'm like you. I read through a lot of different mediums. Books, audio books, electronic formats, CDs, lectures, etc.

The Oriental Casefiles sounds interesting. I'll look that up.

What do you think of Jack McDevitt? Sometimes I think he's quite good and at other times he's quite bland to me.

Having finished much of a Dance with Dragons I'm now starting Rage of the Fallen (The Last Apprentice). I suspect I'm gonna enjoy it immensely as Ward goes to Ireland to face one of the old gods.
