Isn't he the one that's now a "Tome of Magic" Vestige according to Dragon?

Well according to Dragon. All I know is Orcus killed him. What happened after that, doesn't matter to me. :p :)

Tenebrous obliterated the previous Primus during the prologue of The Great Modron March, and Tenebrous temporarily poses as him and hijacks the Modrons during the events of Dead Gods. Tenebrous flees in horror when he eventually realizes that the influence of the Modron energy pool of Regulus is slowly infecting his mind with Law. At that point one of the Secundus Modrons is automatically elevated to become the new Primus. [The Primus killed by Tenebrous is now a Vestige as per Tome of Magic, written up in Dragon Magazine]

In the ensuing disorganization while the new Primus re-establishes control over Regulus, pulls the Modron race back together, and coordinates the regeneration of dead Modrons whose essence has pooled in Regulus, the Modron race has already been seriously put into disorder by that point. Plus, during this period of transition, the Formians that were dumped into Mechanus during the slide of Arcadia's lowest layer have, more or less, gone insane and become expansionist as they face little Modron opposition.

Current day, the new Primus has fully reestablished control, but has recalled virtually all Modrons back to Regulus and sealed the borders of that collection of gears (among the largest, and certainly the most important in Mechanus). What the Modrons are up to now is up for debate, but they're still around, despite their minimization for various reasons, intentional or circumstantial, during the earliest days of 3e.

Thanks for all the responses :)

Now that I know what happened to Primus, I'll have to decide if I want to use the 'new Primus' via Dragon 341 or simply use him as a Vestige going forward (I don't want to anger Orcus, you know). Either way, I'm sure I can find a place in my campaign for modrons.

My copy of Tome of Magic just arrived today, so I look forward to checking out a possible old-primus-as-vestige option as well. :)

No I'm pretty sure that was someone else. Orcus killed him. All hail Orcus!
The schtick is getting old, Nightfall. Even diaglo doesn't show his "hat of d02" more than once per thread.

In all seriousness, Primus was killed by Orcus while he was Tenebrous, in the prologue of The Great Modron March. This information never plays a part in the adventure itself, so it was mostly window dressing. Huge, campaign shaking window dressing. Another modron ascended to take Primus' place, but I don't believe this happened during The Great Modron March because the epilogue has Tenebrous still in Primus' throne room.

The original Primus, now a distinct entity, was statted as a vestige in Dragon 341.

Wow. I had no clue. I've never even seen Dead Gods except when I sold a friend's collection on eBay last year. Interesting story arc.
