Whatever happened to the world of the WOTC campaign contest?

Good question.

They picked the top 10, and then didn't they narrow it down to 3? They didn't announce who the three were, though.

The 10 winners were supposed to submit 10 page essays on the world. That's occurred, I think. And then the top 3 were to submit 100 page essays on their worlds. I imagine that WoTC would give those authors a fair amount of time to do that. That's probably what's happening now - those writers are writing their 100 pages.

The winner was announced a while ago, but Wizards ended up buying the rights to all three of the top settings. Search on the wizards page, it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Haven't heard much about it since then.

One slight thread hijack, but theres one thing I never really understood. After the change to d20/3e, Wizards ceases support for alot of its old settings, Mystara, Planescape, et all-citing fragmentation of the market or sum such. Greyhawk and FR all the way.

Then later- the setting search, then Ghostwalk, plus d20 modern with 3 seperate settings. D20 future yet to come. What gives?

Sorry for the hijack.

Its all good to me. I love Planescape and Dark Sun, but I have plenty of books on those settings (nearly all, in fact) and don't really need any more. New settings, on the other hand, intrigue me. I am always interested in checking out something new and exciting. Why get stuck in the same old rut? I am pleased that WotC is experimenting with new and (hopefully) innovative new settings rather than spending all their energy on continuing support for existing settings.

Well d20 modern is the only one mentioned being actually supported and it isnt being supported to the extent that Forgotten Realms is. D20 modern is coming out with different settings, but they will probably not be followed up as true settings. Any further d20 modern support will be in generic style, like the upcoming d20 Modern Menace Manual.

The only other supported setting besides Forgotten Realms and d20 Modern has been Star Wars.

Ghostwalk will only be the solitary book.

ok, contiuing hijack..I was never a great fan of the older settings, but I still dont understand why Planescape was allowed to lapse. Im glad alot of the older settings have been adapted by 3rd parties.

However, in wanting to try something new, why did Wiz, years into 3e launch a search for more fantasy settings? I agree that new stuff and fresh ideas are always good, but a setting like Planescape(which I only played maybe a few times in my life) was pretty good, a offbeat type of fantasy, and a great candidate for the same kind of support the Wiz gives FR.

ok hijack officially ended -really!
