Whats a reasonable AC at 10th level?

I feel like my level 9 ranger drow with 23 ac is pretty much an underdog against all the ac boosted characters here?
Yep. Definately an underdog...for a melee combatant. Then again, with your LA of +2 you already started out as an Underdog. ;)

Against a typical MM opponent of CR 11 (Ave. Atk +20), your Drow Rgr 9 would be hit about 90% (!!!) of the time. Keep in mind that monsters in the MM are not even close to "optimized" for their CR. For that, try MM III or MM IV.

Do you get damaged during fights alot? :D I'd imagine so......

9d8 hit dice for a level 11 character with a race that has a constitution penalty along with a low armor class?

I am surprised that he is alive at all!

Me too.

Then again, we haven't heard much except race and class and AC. A thread-relevant question would be: "How did you get that AC 23?" and "Do you think your AC is pretty good for the game you play in?"

The NPCs are supposed to suck, remember? They have much lower equipment than a normal PC. A "9 Ranger Drow" is ECL 11. 23 is not high for that level--in fact, 23 is reasonably attainable by level 2 or 3 with Full Plate and a Shield.

The NPC are supposed to suck? I don't remember that, haven't read that anywhere directly, I think. A ranger with full plate and shield? Sorry can't understand it.

I can see one point with the "the npc are supposed to suck" is to get succes experience or, whatever you call it in English, which also is a good reason, but aren't neccesary in the gaming crew I play in.

I've never power played or tanked up my characters, mainly because we don't fight encounters that often, which means we don't need an AC on 30+. But we use knowledge skills a lot. Geez... and I was once called a munckin on this site because I asked a question about a bonearmor (+8 natural armor) because I was curious about that weird thing :(

Off topic: I'm currently running a campign which puts pressure on equipment, i.e. the PCs never quite have enough of it. No one uses a shield either.....So by rights their ACs should be very low.

They are now 6th level, and have ACs of 21, 13, 18, 16, 20, and 19.

Lemme try:

NPC have *much* less wealth than equivalent-level PCs.

More wealth = Higher AC

Clearer? :)

Hehe in our campaign it is always hard to survive because the NPC does not suck. My character has 12 ranks in poison use which is his primary weapon (right now he has poison for 6k of creating price). Hunters mercy (critical and automatic hit) solves a lot of problems, that spell can be used in many tactical moves. He has a lot of team benefit from PHB 2 and survived a lot through that. He can both fight in meele with his bastard sword and shortsword (twin style I think the feat is) but his domain is with his +2 bow and a lot of different arrows to penetrate armors, to climb, to remove rocks, confuse and so on.

The AC is a bit high for my gaming crew, and we do not attack a giant just for fun. Don't know what else I should say about it, I've manage to survive without serious troubles :P

Here's the key peice.

Given a typical session, how many combat encounters does your party have?

BTW, how large is your party?

How many encounters?

In 3 hours it still depends on the enviroment. I once tried where we encountered 8 battles, was horrible, I was a level 4 rogue and we were about 5 members and we have messed up a part of arcane order so we were followed by a shadow devil I think it was. I should have been death there.

We don't fight every all encounters we meet, so approximately 1 per 1½ hour. Right now our party is 3-5 players/npc. I've played the drow one-to-one with the DM to make his background better and more interesting, I lost 2 characters in that process and began from level 1 again, but it was fun.

Yes please give me some advice :P I don't know anything about powerplay xD However I think I've found 3 of the best/better unbalanced feat (mind over body, Legendary and Dark blessing).
