What's Good On PS2?

First Post
Title says it all. I just picked up a Playstation 2 the other day. All I have so far is Everquest Online (as some of my friends have a guild/group going) - BTW, if any of you guys play, look me up! I'm Dagmaar or Adilbrandt, both on the Hodstock server. I'm thinking of getting Dynasty Warriors 4, as my friend has it and it looks pretty cool. Other suggestions?

Oh, the PS2. That crappy system.... :p

It depends on your likes. The system has plenty of choices in all the major genres. It's got all the sports games. For RPG's go with FFX, it's a really fun and solid game. I hear Xenosaga is good as well. Metal Gear Solid 2 is a must-buy, IMO. Devil May Cry was cool as were both Onimushas. Ico is good for a rental (you can beat it quickly).

Other folks will probably recommend Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. I haven't played them enough to do so.

I'll second Onimusha and MGS2 (skip the later parts of the story).

I'll have to think a bit for more.

Here you go:

Any Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game, Rayman 2, and Zone of the Enders is worth a play through (maybe just a rental though).

I like the tekken series for fighting games so tekken tag and tekken 4 were lots of fun for me.

yes GTA 3 and vice city are great.

I haven't played my PS2 for a while my Xbox and vube have me hooked so Ican't think of anything else right now. But they have some great games.

Start with some cheaper, older games: Virtua Fighter 4, Baldur's Gate:DA {its more Gauntlet than anything else, but well done}, ICO {a masterpiece of a adventure game}, Wipeout: Fusion {spacy racer}.

There's a whole line of $20 {new} Greatest Hits games, with popular titles like Gran Turismo 3 and Ace Comabt 4 {never played 'em myself}.

Some newer titles I like: Suikoden 3 {long, well-written --no, really- RPG}. Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner {short but intense anime-mech game. Excellent graphics and controls}, Guilty Gear XX {no, not porn, a 2D fighter w/bizarre character designs. Also great looking}. Ratchet and Clank, a 3D shooter/platform game that looks and plays like a inordinantly violent Saturday morning cartoon.

Also, check for deals and close-outs. My local Target has Sega's NFK2K3 for $9.99 {a steal at that price. Its a great football game}.

My PS2 "must" list:

Suikoden III
Guilty Gear XX
Grand Theft Auto 1&2*
I'll second either of the Zone of the Enders games
Dead or Alive 2

*Actualy, I'd suggest these for the PC, if your PC can run them. PS2 is a good second, though.

Just been playing Splinter Cell and really enjoying it. Also AFL 2003, which is probably not available outside of Australia, but is a fun sports game if you like australian rules football.

Sorry to chime in late, but my girlfriend and I have another recommendation: Dark Cloud 2. It's a game in the mold of Zelda 64, but I only partially liked that game, and loved this one. It took ninety hours to beat it, and it was fun the whole time. One of my top ten computer/video games of all time.

Enjoy!
