What's On Your Comic Pull-List?

You're right about Sandman, but I thought Starman ended due to both low sales and the writer wanting to move on. Well, either way, I doubt that any other writer would have been able to capture the feeling of the original (although, admittedly, the final story arc did drag in spots).
Nah, Starman's end was planned, although James Robinsson
decided about shorten the run about at the same time as Jack
Knight went into space, which is why the end is pretty much
directly after he returns to Earth. But he didn't just leave the
series, but all of comics. He's doin' film work now I believe.

But it definately wasn't cancelled. Starman's sales were at it's
highest point during the end.

Sandman Mystery Theatre was definitely cancelled, though. They never really finished the last mystery (IIRC, someone was wearing a WWI uniform and murdering people). The final issue felt very rushed as they attempted to wrap everything up.
Ah yes, I meant to edit Sandman Mystery Theatre out of the quote
as it was cancelled. I simply forgot.

That's what happened? Well, get well soon Kurt. I believe he is supposed to to the new Conan series as well, for Dark Horse (I think).

Yep, and apparently the cure for mercury poisoning is about as bad or worse than having the poisoning in the first place. From what he says, it's a very slow process.

Now, however, we have more Astro City goodness. In fact, I think there's a new issue this week. Mmm, New Comic Day.

I have WAY too many comics pulled for me right now...

Here are my favorites, not in any particular order:

Hellboy & Hellboy related books
Planetary
Astro City
Fantastic Four
Ultimate Spider-Man
Ultimates
Tom Strong
Promethea
LoEG
Punisher
JSA
X-Statix
Green Arrow

Titles that I'm still getting but really ought to drop:

JLA--I haven't liked anything that the most recent team has done. I don't find Joe Casey's writing to be coherent or consistent at all. I thoroughly despised the entire Obsidian Age storyline, and I dislike the new members Faith and Manitou Raven intensely. What's the big deal with Faith anyway--has she done anything at all? Aside from flight and some sort of emotion boosting ability what are her powers? I don't know. Does anyone?

New X-Men--this simply does not feel like the X-Men to me. I don't mind different takes but this really feels like it ought to be a What If or Elseworlds comic. Cyclops actually kills a guy in it--where does this come from? Cyclops has always had a pretty heavy Code vs Killing (to use a Champions term) up until Grant Morrison started writing him. Morrison writes these characters like he really dislikes them--like he's trying his best to make every one of them unlikable. When was the last time the characters in New X-Men actually did something heroic and good?

I didn't like the first arc that much, but Obsidian Age worked for me. You're right, Casey doesn't seem to make it a point to explain everything that's going on, which gets confusing when there are new characters. That said, I don't have any problem with the new members, Faith, Manitou Raven, Major Disaster, Firestorm & Atom.
Faith is a telekinetic (that's her primary power), by the way.

The new characters each bring something character-wise to the team, that wouldn't have worked with most of the more established members. There really are very few females who fit in with the JLA's big guns, in terms of power-level, and reputation/status. So why NOT make a new one? Faith is a very different character from Wonder Woman, the only other female presence, she's meant to be the sexy, sassy one (which Diana is not). Similarly, Major Disaster is this JLA's Guy Gardner, the guy who makes crude comments and isn't as much a boy scout as the others, but is still a good guy in the end. He's doing the book in a slightly more Avengers style (mixing the big guns with lesser known heroes, mixing up personalities, trying to add interesting character dynamics).

Grant Morrison and Mark Waid are tough acts to follow. I think Casey's doing a fine job, but I can see why his style doesn't work for some people.

Pull list

Knights of the Dinner Table
PS 238
Girl Genius
Nodwick
Planetary

By the way, according to the last Previews I've seen, the next issue of Planetary is scheduled for April 30th.

And as regards Planetary/Batman, remember that the Blue Lamp (Green Lantern analog) is out there somewhere...

During the ugly time of 2002, I picked up comics (even when I probably shouldn't have) until the last few months, and now I haven't been back to the store in about three months or so.

Nextplanetover is dead and gone, btw. Can anyone think of any other online-retailers? Does diamond sell direct? My schedule makes getting to a comic shop a difficult proposition, on a regular basis.

I got to speak to Matt Wagner about SMT, and he said he wishes DC would make tpb out of the series. He went on to say what he really would have liked to do is make pocket size booklets out of some story lines. Kinda like a pocket detective novel. There some issues of Sandman Mystrey Theatre that I need to get to finish my collection of them.
