Whats the best you've ever rolled

...on damage to kill something?

Not in terms of total damage delt, but just you were stunned by how well you had rolled?

During my game the other night, a paladin in my group finished off a 12-HD skeleton which had been created by a necromancer with the Destruction Retribution feat from Libris Mortus. As a result, he took 7d6 damage from negative energy. At the time, he had 8 hp left. He made his reflex save for half damage, but I rolled 6, 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 3 on 7d6 for 37 points of damage, bringing him to exactly -10.

Needless to say, I was stunned by the roll.

So I was wondering, has anyone out there ever naturally done max damage on, say, a 7d6 fireball?

The best I've ever rolled....

I rolled all 100's for my brand new 1st level 1st edition character. What for you may ask? Psionics!! First I rolled all my 4d6 stats above 16, and the ones that mattered for the psionics I rolled 18’s….it was great.

AD&D psionics where, shall we say, SUPER XMEN powerful....especially if you rolled well and had good stats. You could do some neat stuff with those rules, like link together several pc who where lucky enough to have them and fight battles with pit fiends, all before the rest of the party even swung a sword. You could also die in less than a second against nasty things like Mind Flayers, especially if you rolled bad on your psionic powers and defenses. Having a psionic contest was neat, basically the DM writes an attack and defense down on a sheet of paper, while you do the same. Then you turn the paper over and look at the results on a chart, awww the good old 1E days.

We always made new characters roll for psionics, comeliness, and social status.....great fun.

My best roll in recent memory was actually in a Savage Worlds game, not D&D. I was playing a paladin/demon hunter, and this big nasty demon was approaching that could only be killed by hitting it in the right eye.

Savage Worlds uses a single die usually; in my case I was rolling 1d8 to hit (had to beat his defenses) and 1d6 + 3 I think for damage.

The dice are open ended high; roll the max on a die (say 6 on a d6 roll) and you get to reroll and add as long as you keep rolling the max.

I hit the demon, and rolled my damage. On 1d6 + 3, I ended up rolling a 37.

The demon fell over. :D

Rolling up a Human Fighter from Thenol for a 2E Taladas campaign, we were rolling 3d6 in order, first roll: 18! :D Since I knew he'd be a Fighter, DM asked for percentiles. *rolling* Double Zeros!!

Needless to say, I was the front-line fighter. :]

My best was rolling a crit with an empowered orb of flame on a frost worm. That fight didn't even last one full round.

That did something like 45d6+12 :) I rolled a total of 158 and it killed it in one shot.

The DM was so surprised he forgot to make it explode.

Warmage are great.

In World Tree, d20 is differentiated from s20. s(number) is stress dice. If you get a 1, roll again, -20. If you get a 20, roll again, +20. Each of them stack.

So, one of my players is roll for the Power of her spell. Think of a modified 20 as a good roll.

... 4 20's later, she lands a 96.

Another time, someone was trying make the grass around his campsite fire-proof, so that he wouldn't start a fire while starting his fire. ... You know.
He ends up fire-proofing 72 pounds of grass. Pounds. Of grass. :uhoh:

My buddy Tim has crit tables where you roll percentage to see what happens on natch 20. A 00 is generally an insta-kill. We were fighting these electric flying manta ray things, and they were dishing out d10 on tail lashing damage, accompanied by 6d6 electrical damage. It hurt. We were getting our keisters handed to us, and I rolled a 20 followed by 00 on the crit check *twice* in one one melee round and killed them both. Saved us from a sure TPK. I love me my half-orc fighter/cleric and his +3 2-handed sword.

The best roll that I remember was during a game of Star Wars d6. In that game, one of your dice is a wild die. Roll a six on the wild die and you get to keep rolling adding up the numbers as you go. I think I rolled 8d6 for a damage check. I came up with 1,1,1,1,1,1,2,6 with the 6 being the wild die. I then rerolled the wild die several times. It just kept coming up one 6 after another. I ended up with a total of 67. Not bad for 8d6 roll :)
