What's the most usefull non-combat item!?

Oh my turn

Sadly I have thought about this a lot....girls need to accessorize.

A bit back someone asked how usefull an immoble rod could be, oh let me just tell you, it is a life saver :) In an adventure (it was a wacky one-time fun game) we got to chose 3 magic items to outfit out char with. My little gnome cleric had a ring of jumping, spider climb and Immoble rod. She only had a str of 3 so she wasn't good in combat so she had to stay away. So she would run up my friends back and jump off his shoulders then use her immoble rod to stay up in the air. Perching on the rod she would shoot down arrows with her bow...it was a lot of fun.

Also the immoble rod is a thieves best friend. Once it is painted black it is hard to see at night...gaurds chasing you, can't see that rod you just let go of off your right shoulder...they might run right into it.

My favorite magic item has to be the Feather token tree :) it is the absolute most usefull item ever. :) and the more you have the better hehe.

Most useful items?

An grey dull ioun stone with continual flame cast on it. Costs 115 gp, you have light with a hands free set

An expendable pole: costs almost nothing, useable for a lot of things

A small steel mirror: never leave home without one. Al my chars do have one right from the beginning, except for my monk, who couldn't pay one. She bought one after the first adventure. You can use it to look around walls, signal friends, spot medusas and vampires, possibilities are endless

Hold Portal spell on really big doors (like castle gates)

Need any more? :)

A character in my game just used it to hold the door shut in a building he just set ablaze.

An easy, but creul, way to kill people.

I hope he was of evil alignment...

I've got to agree with several others that the items that allow you to carry more stuff is extremely useful.

I hate encumberance rules. With a HHH, I can pretty much ignore them if I pack reasonably light. With a Bag of Holding, I can carry a lot of stuff, especially if it is a saddlebag of holding.

The Glove of Storing is mostly a combat item, get around the MEA to store or take out something. I don't think they should really qualify. Still extremely useful, but most of those uses are eitehr to try and sneak something into someplace or to quickly store or retrieve a combat item (wand, weapon, etc).

Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments (draw a picture, it becomes real) can be very effective and flexible. Need some water, draw a barrel full of it. Need some food and drink, draw a table full of it. It can get you most any mundane item not made of precious materials.

Overall, I think the Pigments might be the best all around. Even with that, I would still rather pick up the Ring of Sustenance or a HHH. Small Bag of Holding would work as well.
