Whatever happens, this will follow it:

Whenever someone seems to be "winning" you get pushback. I'm noticing young people (under about 30 in this case) in the UK becoming increasingly hardcore anti-Christian. Not atheist, specifically anti-Christian.
well Christian programming could range from the Vicar of Dibley and Touched by an Angel right through to Farcry 5, it doesnt need to be pro-Christian to have Christian themes. But yeah Christianity tends to be an old peoples focus, with numbers declining with more than half the population being non religious

One thing to consider is biblical stories don't necessarily need to be promoting belief as you point out. Sometimes even ones that do simply resonate with people who aren't Christian (my wife is Buddhist for example and made me take her to the theater to see Passion of the Christ and she really liked it). I'm sure plenty of people have watched the Jesus of Nazareth mini-series who either don't believe or don't take it all so literally.

In terms of popularity today, I feel like I do see a lot of Christian media these days. They just put out a movie about Mary with Anthony Hopkins in it (and it is on Netflix). Also stuff like Exorcism films remain quite popular. And there are series like the Chosen. It can span quite a range.

When I was a kid you had a lot of counter cultural Christian or Christian themed media like Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. And you had racy stuff like Last Temptation of Christ. And a movie like The Bad Lieutenant had pronounced Christian Themes and imagery but was a pretty gritty film about a cop wallowing in vice. So it can be a very broad canvass to utilize.

I don't mind stuff like that as long as it isn't preachy. More likely to watch if it sets during ancient times tough.

Whodunits* certainly have gained ground since the first Poirot (Orient Express) by Kenneth Branagh in 2017. On TV, the Miss Fisher series was a big hit. They did Pergrine Fisher's follow-up series, which we also liked. My Life is Murder with Lucy Lawless was average. The Blanc movies with Craig were fun.

I feel like Only Murders in the Building is the culmination of that trend. It's so meta that it breaks the genre, just like The Boys superhero show.

*Although similar, whodunits are not police procedurals. Whodunit investigators always operate outside clueless or uncollaborative law enforcement.

How’s about a rise in some meta scriptwriting & production? Using ChatGPT and similar tools for writing development & visuals might result in the next American HS tv show having these characters:
