Let's compare that to today. In our current economic predicament, many people, young people especially, feel as though they will never be able to do things like purchase their own home, pay off their student loans, and their wages have not kept up with inflation over the years. Now someone comes with a new technology that will drive down wages and it top it off it "learns" from examining the work created by actual human beings. Do you at least understand why some people are unhappy?
If they're poor they should be in favor of a technology that drives down prices.

You've made a reading error.

He said drives down wages, not prices.

AI doesn't drive down prices. Waymo isn't cheaper than Uber, it's more expensive. Some AI solutions may be cheaper than employing a human, but that saving is absolutely not, under any circumstance, get passed on by any kind of corporation to customers. It just gets pocketed and sent to some ultra-rich guy's offshore bank, with some of it going to the AI company to speed up climate change as much as possible.

And if it drives down wages and the quality of the product as well?
It's kind of irrelevant because it demonstrably doesn't even drive down prices. And has no capacity to lower the prices of the major stressors in society either - food, housing, health care.

NovelAI is a hell of a lot cheaper than hiring someone to write a story for you. Artbreeder is a hell of a lot cheaper than hiring an artist. Suno and Udio will generate over a hundred songs for the price of one album from Bandcamp (though they do have the downside of not allowing shock rock lyrics; but that just means that there's still a niche for singers made of meat to fill; as long as the people who run these services are still a bunch of squeamish pandering cowards there will always still be a place for human artists)
