What's this about a plagiarized map in Conan: City of Shadizar?

People aren't always nice and pleasant, especially when they feel strongly about a particular topic (and losing good money on bad merchandise can generate strong feelings). If it's a problem for you, oh well. I never intended to ingratiate myself with the Mongoose apologists -- quite the opposite. The company has serious problems, and no amount of rhetorical sleight-of-hand will erase the verifiable and occasionally quite glaring editorial lapses they've had over the years. Anyway, I've said my piece here. People can make up their own minds.

So, nothing they can do can make up for past sins?

Dude, at least in the case of Conan, we're talking about some typos. Wouldn't you say that you might be overreacting just a bit? The books are very height quality (full color!), so a few misspellings are not going to break the bank.

Even Mutants & Masterminds, a much beloved Superhero game is chock full of errata and necessary FAQ.

I agree, there were tons of early Mongoose stuff I wouldn't have bought. Fortunately, the ones I did buy were pretty solid (The book about the seas was really good). But I think alot of companies, including Mongoose, have matured since then.

Arkham618, what would you like to have seen in Conan the Roleplaying Game that would have made a more positive difference? Can you give a clearer, more specific example as to why you feel GURPs Conan is better than Conan the Roleplaying Game?

To me, this thread once again illustrates that one gamer's trash is another gamer's treasure. I've had positive and negative experiences with Mongoose as I have had with many other publishers, including TSR/WotC. Sometimes, a plus turns into a minus over time and vice-versa. I think they have had some production and quality issues, but I'm willing to give Mongoose another chance with a revised product slated for release soon (see above). It's probably make or break for them with me since there is very little else that they are producing that meets my individual tastes at the moment. As it stands, I don't care what they do with the Conan license because it was one of the aforementioned negative experiences for me. So, I don't buy or play that game; although I did buy The Road of Kings because Vincent Darlage is a true fan and I wanted to support his work on that gazetteer (I though it would be excellent and it is, in my opinion). Other opinions may vary, but those are mine.

Now, I will try to hijak the thread again with a call for any information that I can get about The Horned God Complete Camapign. I was glad to see Matt and a Mongoose editor posting here and hoped they would shed some light on this conversion from Slaine (again not my cup of tea but apparently liked by some). I am waiting for this product with baited breath.

Thank you! You made my day!

I find this thread very interisting. The first Mongoose book I bought was The Slayer's Guide to Hobgoblins, the second was Paranoia XP. I avoided the Quintessential books because they looked to much like the old Complete books from 2e. Yes, I judged a book by it's cover. :heh:

The Quint books are hit and miss. And some are even hit and miss inside their own covers. More of them are bad then good I'd have to say.

Edit: Nah...on second thought, I better stay out of this.

You know, I suspected Vig had inferior taste when he included Rooster Kung Fu in Blood & Fists II...
