What's this about a plagiarized map in Conan: City of Shadizar?

Sam Witt I believe.

There is also a 3.5 update document for the Quint Psion on Mongoose's site. Its a little clunky but the author of the update was well-intentioned (he says in a self-depreciating way). Hopefully he'll get an update to the Psychic Warrior out as well. Psionics significantly changed in 3.5, it looks cosmetic but when you actually go back through stuff its not.

Mr. Lowbrow McNotaste, they call him. He has seen "Bloodsport" ten times and still always cries at the end.

"Bad writing making for good gaming" is worthy of its own thread.

That's fine. Not everybody has ... standards. *shrug* To educate the historically uninformed, Steve Jackson Games published a GURPS Conan in the early '90s. It was in one volume superior to all the books so far published by Mongoose for their Conan line. Not as graphically endowed, sure, but the content was sharp and concise, well-edited, and didn't require a stream of errata and apologies from the publisher to be digestible. There was also a prior attempt at Babylon 5: the Babylon Project RPG by the now defunct Chameleon Eclectic. Again, while not as visually impressive as the Mongoose production, it at least attempted to emulate the feel of the series, instead of shoehorning the setting into a clumsy derivative ruleset.

I made no such claim. We are discussing standards, which are subjective, and mine are clearly more exacting than others. That's fine. I won't force my opinions onto anyone. I was brusque before because I was angry. I spent quite a bit of money discovering Mongoose's lax editorial standards and hackish writing -- that will teach me for buying product sight-unseen over the internet -- and wish to warn discerning consumers about what they can expect from that publisher. Because most of the posts to this thread read like paeans to Mongoose, I felt the need to balance them with sharp criticism.

Yes you did indeed make such a claim. Read your first post as though it was written by a stranger. By implying that people who disagree with you do not have standards. Strike 2.

The Auld Grump

Even in his "clarifying" remark he claims he has "more exacting" (ie better) standards than those who disagree with him.

What a maroon.

Whatever. Strike 3. You can feel morally vindicated and self-righteous now. Just do so quietly, if you would. The ad hominems and ad consequentia and other fallacy-riddled rhetorical devices are getting old.

Ad hominem. And childish name-calling to boot. Next time, I'd prefer a lynch mob if you don't mind.

If you guys are done, we can get back to the topic on hand.

Other mongoose books that have been real good are the Book of. I've only seen Book of planes and book ofstronholds but both were good quality works. Book of planes has some great ideas and simpole mechancis that really add a lot. I was impressed with that one.

Arkham618, what would you like to have seen in Conan the Roleplaying Game that would have made a more positive difference (other than grammar/spelling corrections)? Can you give a clearer, more specific example as to why you feel GURPs Conan is better than Conan the Roleplaying Game?

The thing to do is not to insult him back, it is to report his posts.

Which I have just done.

The bickering has to stop. Now.

This goes for everyone.

Further, please keep the EN World rules in mind when posting.

For example:
Keep it civil: Don't engage in personal attacks, name-calling, or blanket generalizations in your discussions. Say how you feel or what you think, but be careful about ascribing motives to the actions of others or telling others how they "should" think. People seeking to engage and discuss will find themselves asking questions, seeking clarifications, and describing their own opinion. People seeking to "win an argument" sometimes end up taking cheap shots, calling people names, and generally trying to indimidate others. My advice: don't try to win.
If someone continues to stir up trouble, don't respond to the post - just report it.

If you have any questions, e-mail me.
