What's this about a plagiarized map in Conan: City of Shadizar?

Then, I heard you hired Vincent Darlage. Holy crap, for once a company actually paid attention and didn't assume they could do better than someone who did a helluva job on their own, out of love for the subject. I'd been a BIG fan of Vincent's Conan d20 site since I first found it. Knowing a guy like that, who was both a fan of the game and the subject about to be rendered into game terms, was going to be working on the project made me want to give Mongoose the benefit of the doubt.

Thank you for the compliment! :)

But, I did buy Road of Kings and Scrolls of Skelos, and found them to be fantastic, definitive works. I have to budget out some dough for the other Conan books, but I'm gonna get 'em.

Please do. I am extremely pleased with the whole Conan line - including material I didn't work on. Anyway, thank you again for the overall compliments! :D

I have to admit that I haven't bought any Mongoose products in some time. Not that I don't like the company, just haven't seen too much that caught my eye. HOwever, B5 has been on my list of things to consider for some time, and with a publisher like this, I may just get around to getting it. A publisher who takes time to post a (rather lengthy) response to fan concerns on a public venue deserves some respect. That was a classsy, classy move.

Well, Mongoose's history of editing problems was certainly not limited to that one Conan book alone. That book only represented the low-water mark.

I have the first edition of Conan, and its one of the best RPG books I have ever purchased, warts and all.

If thats a "low water mark" sign me up for some of that water...

I really like their B5 books, I don't have a lot of them since I'm not actually playing the game. But the indepthness of the books like the Narn and Mibari books is just impressive. Even for people not familar with rthe show the books had everything they needed to know and understand for the game. That's tough with a show as complicated as B5.

Well, obviously your post was supplied to you by an employee who was taking the mick. The only correct thing to do is issue a corrected post, but only to those individuals who send you a copy of the original, defective post.

:p

LOL :)

"Taking the mick" is my new favourite phrase.
I first encountered it in Night Watch by Terry Pratchett, wher the full 'taking the pi... Taking the Michael' was used.

The Auld Grump, at least Mongoose isn't leaving the fans with sweet F.A. (Just to see how many of my fellow Americans I can confuse...)

I had given up on them too. But I now own all the Conan books, (Atlantean Edition of the main book) and I'm quite pleased with them.

I do have the boxed set, and the map in question is indeed signed. I've gone to that artist's website, but it's down. The name on the map is Clayton Bunce. And boy howdy, but looking at that Map of the Week, it's totally obvious (to me) the Shadizar map is a plagarization.

(I thought for a while about whether or not I should name him, but he's the one who did the (alleged) crime, so I decided to go ahead. If a moderator wants me to, I'll remove his name.)

Note: Edited at moderator's request.

Okay, folks, here's the scoop. At least for the moment, we're going to let the name stay up.

Please do not make accusations that can be considered slanderous.

That means that he allegedly recopied his own map for re-use in Shadizar.

This is very important, gang. Until Mongoose works this out and his innocence or guilt is proven, we do not wish to accuse him of anything more than a mistake. The word "alleged" is your friend here. :)
