What's this about a plagiarized map in Conan: City of Shadizar?

I would like to understand something. A new printed map will be sent to those who did buy the product? If so, I guess that if I buy this boxed set, I will get both the "bad" map and the good one? (Interesting deal...)

But as someone who has done some contracting work myself (in the US) there is no way I would give a client my SSN or any other tax info.

That's odd, since the client would need your SSN in order to issue a W-4 come tax time...unless you make it a habit to work illegally off the books....

In the US that may be the case, but that's certainly not how it works in the UK, and we don't yet know where the artist is based (could be anywhere in the world). Over here, if you are a permanent employee of a company then they handle your tax affairs via the PAYE (pay as you earn) system. So you just get paid the net amount and your payslip shows you how much you got taxed.

If you are doing self-employed work (such as working as an RPG freelancer) then it's your responsibility to go through the self-assement system, which involves getting a form from the Inland Revenue (our version of the IRS) and putting down all your sources of income outside of PAYE stuff. At some point the Inland Revenue will then send you a bill for what you owe them.

But it's totally the individual's responsibility. At the point at which you get the cheque you're neither illegal nor legal. You're only illegal if you fail to declare the income by the end of the tax year.

The people who pay you just give a cheque (for the gross amount). From their point of view, all they need in an invoice from you, with a name to put on the cheque and an address to post it to, in order to "close" their books.

I think Matt Sprange said you'd need to send the "bad" map back (as proof of purchase) to get the good one.

I know. I was directly addressing reanjr's comment, which gave the strange advice, and specified that he was working in the US.

My apologies, I missed that bit.

EDIT: And having reread your post I'm not quite sure how. Oops. [Hangs head in shame] :)

Well, obviously your post was supplied to you by an employee who was taking the mick. The only correct thing to do is issue a corrected post, but only to those individuals who send you a copy of the original, defective post.

:p
