Whats this party missing?

cheers guys, having fwded your oppinions on a decision has been made...no its not the sentient ooze druid unfortunately. On reading into the campaign setting a bit more and taking what you've said into acount the party will now be joined by...Jango the Gnome corsair, who will take bard levels and wield 2 pistols for some ranged combat and face ability with the possibility of going dread pireat, should be fun

what are they missing. .... A reason to be together as a party.

if the new guy wants a role to fill. be the guy who helps meld the group together for more than just one adventure.
 

the many emails have been workin on that as well, thought we were sorted but not sure how we're going to get a gnome corsair into the mix ahh well its all good fun

bit of background then, dont know if anyones interested but hey

First of all Illumians in the campaign exist as nomadic clans after the other human houses ejected them from the empire for continued use of magic which is viewed as evil by the empire due to its use by the goblins in the last war to nearly destroy humanity, so now they're landless.

So the two illumian characters are from a clan that was destroyed by raiders, could be human could be goblinoid, and have been raised by the dwarf. After a few years they left his company to try and find out more about their kind, one of them fully embracing his magical heritage and becoming a wizard. Now, following what they've learnt, they've decided to return to their foster father and take him with them to show him a life beyond the tunnels following in the footsteps of some of his ancestors (Dwarves are big on ancestor worship rather than a pantheonic faith). This leaves adventure options pretty open with the two illumians searching for information about their heritage and the dwarf adventuring for new experiences and perhaps to try and surpass some of the achievemnts of his ancestors and become a legend himself.

Not the most original of back histories but its workable. The question is how to tie a Gnome Corsair into the group

If he's without a boat and you are all in a desert along the coast he could have been kicked out of his pirate band for some crime that earned him banishment/abandonment but not serious enough for keel hauling or walking the plank. You come upon him in your wanderings and he charms his way into your good graces with tales of the high seas and wide world. In return your native dervish desert skills keep him alive, and in his tellings he comes to like you guys as well so he doesn't split at the first opportunity.
