What's up with the RPGnet boards?

I post there too (as Sangrolu), but sometimes I wonder why. The posts really are tending to content free system holy wars. About the last good thread over there was "GM advice redux" about a month ago.

I like games other than d20, so I listen around there for news/ideas about other system. But the anti-d20 chestbeating is pathetic.

Dispensing with the notion that the differences amount to whether 'free-speech' is enshrined in one and not the other, the relationship to the boards only comes through it's users.

RPG.net is one of the larger game-focused sites out there, has been running a good long while, and ENWorld is the biggest D&D-related site out there. There are quite a few posters who visit both sites and in general people who do so follow the rules of both places to the best of their abilities.

I remember more of a rivalry between RPG.net and the Gaming Outpost, way back when.

Oh, the horror! Is that kind of filth legal on the internet?

Ya know, I never did know what those letters in the middle were until I went to rpg.net. ;)

I often surf at work. I work for a big company that doesn't like employees surfing on the job. Profanity sometimes triggers flags in my firewall. So basically, if there is a lot of profanity on a board or webpage, I don't go there.

Its kind of annoying. Using profanity almost never serves to underscore someone's point and it keeps some posters away. Its counter-productive.

While it's true that a pro/con d20 debate on rpg.net would be about as productive as a pro/con Storyteller (etc.) here, there are tons of awesome discussions going on over there that far outweigh the parochialism. Example: a recent thread on ideas for campaigns people wanted to run but never found the time/guts for--examples range from the utterly crackpot to superhuman genius or both.

Also, if you're ever tempted to learn something about a non-d20 RPG--anything at all, however obscure--just go there, use Search, and enjoy; or browse the reviews. These guys really do know what they're talking about.

Just don't read any d20 thread (except those by somebody called American Bada$$ :D), and you'll be fine.

She's just this girl, you know?

I had somebody e-mail me a virus after posting there once.

That's a really good way to win a debate.
