What's up with the RPGnet boards?

enworld is full of slavering d20 fan-boys: "d20 is the be all and end all of tabletop RPGs."

rpg.net is full of slavering RPG fad-boys: "The latest thing, is the greatest thing."

rpg.net is also full of "the more obscure the RPG, the better it must be" type of people. Though, when pressed, many of these folks can actually justify why they love their chosen game, even if they and their dogs are the only people playing it right now. Weird.

For whatever reason, I do prefer RPG.net because I'm interested in knowing about all RPGs, not just d20 based (and similar) types. However, this board is great in terms of civility and ability to stay on topic even after 40 posts to a thread.

I to enjoy EN World's focus. I'm a big fan of trying new things, but as I'm usually the DM that implies that I'm the driving force in any group I play in to try new games. End result, I gotta dish out the money for most the games I play. Most of the players I've had over the years balk at even owning the PH, and about half of them don't like to read rulebooks. They're good roleplayers, but they often don't know the rules very well......

Well anyway, besides the upcoming Godlike game, I've made a point not to buy into any new system unless I'm sure that I will get my money's worth for owning it. I almost bought CoC recently, but I held back, because I knew that I want to mainly focus on working on my modified 3e campaign world of Gauthon (see my Story Hour if you care). If I bought CoC, then great I have an expensive, though beautiful book, but I probably wouldn't use it much if at all in actual gameplay.

So instead of CoC, I got Deities & Demigods, which is much more applicable to what I need.

That was a quite a zig zag of a ramble,
C.I.D.
